That's where we disagree. I do believe he was trying to break up the DP and if Pedey had to be the "collateral damage" the so be it. IMO the replay clearly shows his foot outside the bag and (intentionally?) heading for Pedey's leg. As I said at the time I think once the play was over MM had an "Oh s***" moment and tried to mitigate his damage by helping Pedey up. However, that's only a part of the issue. The greater issue (IMO) is whether there was a negative reaction from the clubhouse over "It's not me, it's them." Having played the game and knowing how players can look out for one another I find it incomprehensible that those players who "had Pedey's back" in that fracas weren't offended by his comment. I also believe that's part of what Bogaerts was referring to when he said that this year's clubhouse doesn't have the tension last year's had. (and that's not a quote but a good characterization of what XBo said).

I was always a Vazquez fan boy, probably because I like the defensive side of the game better than the offensive side and Vaz was clearly better than Swihart defensively. However, I also had to recognize that Swihart was better offensively than Vaz. That's an admittedly low bar at the moment but at that time Vaz was hitting ~.227/.585 while Swi was at .258/.720 (2016 stats). My fear was that the FO would install Swi as the starting catcher based on his offense but then Swi got hurt and lost most of a season opening the door for Vazquez & Sandy Leon. IMO the thing that's important in this conversation is that Swi has historically had an OPS >.700 when he was healthy in 2015 & 2016 so there's no reason to think he can't equal that in 2018 if he got the playing time. Given Swi's defensive skills .700 isn't good enough to start at any position other than catcher but it's good enough to be a utility player - or even one of the two starting catchers IF he can improve his catching skills. (And I know that those years are SS's but they're the only sample size we've got). I think they guy deserves a chance to prove what he can do with the bat. I also think he has a future in professional baseball, just maybe not with the Sox. The problem of course is where he can get those AB's.

Because we all know that WAR is the be-all end-all of statistics.

It's been my feeling all along that the reasons they were keeping Swihart were twofold. They want him as insurance against either Leon or Vaz getting injured or not performing well, and Swi doesn't have any options left. I'm confident that if he had options he'd have been in Pawtucket long ago. I don't have a good answer for Kimmie's question as to why he didn't get more AB's while Hanley was here, but that doesn't change my opinion on why he was kept on the team.

First, we don't actually KNOW THE WHOLE STORY behind anything. For all we KNOW Mookie may have gotten into a fight with someone in the clubhouse which is why he's not playing. We don't even KNOW that he's injured. We're just taking someone else's word for it. Like just about most things in life we don't know because we don't have that information first hand. Obviously you don't find my interpretation of what happened to be credible. That's fine. But you may want to remember that I'm the only one who's been there and heard what they had to say and how it was said. By all means,choose to believe the mainstream media and their spin. When I get conflicting stories I'll choose to believe those people who lived it and their reactions. Enjoy your day.

You're clouding the issue (as usual). The people I spoke with found Butterfield credible. You weren't there and you apparently don't find him credible. Got it.

I don't see what that has to do with whether or not Pedey's comment was well received by the clubhouse. I'm not going to recount the conversation - others have made their own attempt to discredit it anyway. What I do know is that the discomfort they felt when the question came up was palpable. I was there. I know the impression I got and I also know the impression that the dozen or more people I've spoken with who were also there agrees with mine (unless you want to say they were being dishonest with me - which is a cop-out argument). People are going to believe what they want to believe. I was there and know what I believe. Others don't. Meh. But you can bet your sweet ass that I'm not going to relay anything else I hear at forums like that. I thought I was in a position to give a little insight and all I've gotten is ********.

Everyone I spoke with who was there agrees with my interpretation. Were you there? If so I must have missed seeing you.
