  1. Bigger problem right now is Shaw. Last 24 games .551 OPS, .483 OPS vs lefties, .359 OPS, .142 BAbip, 1 RBI in June. Not sure how long this offense will last if Hanley and Shaw don't bound back.
  2. did he join this board yet? 2016 draft is coming up shortly!
  3. Just for a discussion sake. I think this trade can make a lot of sense for both teams.
  4. I'm not sure if someone pointed this out already but the Red Sox have scored 80 runs more than the "god of offense" Jays while playing 2 games fewer.
  5. it's being reported Carson Smith will have TJS. a big blow.
  6. I think it's worth it if we are talking about Alba.
  7. I think Swihart could be ok at LF with his athleticism and speed but first few line drive hits directly above his head could be tough to get used to especially playing in front of the Monster.
  8. I would too. Can you imagine having Trout, Betts, and JBJ in our OF?
  9. One article mentioned 3 teams with enough talents to land Trout and those 3 teams were the Red Sox, Rangers, and Dodgers. Of course their farm systems are top ranked. Article also listed potential packages for Trout. Article says Moncada, Benintendi, Swihart, Owens for Trout. Would you do this trade? Article also has the Dodgers give up Urias, Pederson, De Leon, and Alex Wood for Trout and I personally think Dodgers package is far more appealing than the Red Sox.
  10. Papi and Bogaerts starters and Shaw, JBJ, and Pedey on the bench. Steven Wright and Taz also get picks from the manager.
  11. And now we are about to miss Carson Smith for a long period of time.
  12. There aren't that many high quality starters available at this moment and lack of SP depth will hurt this team. Two likely trade partners Guardians and Mets are playing well and won't give away their starters unless they are absolutely blown away at the offer. I can see few names available from rock bottom teams such as Julio Teheran, Drew Pomeranz, or Ervin Santana but none of them should be tempting to Sox fans. Hope DD comes up with something brilliant and fixes SP problems and doesn't make the same mistake.
  13. To be honest, we don't really need a 30 HR guy at any position. Sox were the best scoring team with 2nd to last in HR until few weeks ago. But Papi is not just HR. He drives guys in, hits clutch, gets on base, hits doubles all over the field, etc. In 2015, average 1B would have hit about 26 HRs in 600 AB and slugged .452 but Papi hit 37 HRs and slugged .553 in 528 AB last season. So if a bat is needed after Papi is gone, 30-100 bat will be needed but not necessarily at 1B.
  14. Please remember we are trying to fill in for David Ortiz who's been the center piece of this powerful offense. Internal solution will create another hole to fill in and it can't just be a decent one. So if Hanley becomes our regular DH, then either Travis Shaw or Sam Travis will have to be our regular 1B but can you really put that pressure on Sam Travis from the get go? Panda has been disaster for 2 seasons now and can you honestly expect him to be major offensive contributor in 2017? DD will not hand a job to Panda because he's getting paid a lot. I'm not saying internal candidates do not make sense here but it's more complicated than signing a guy from the outside.
  15. soxprospects.com has plus arm strength for Moncada and think he can play at any position. If FO is determined to go with HanRam at DH, I won't be surprised if Moncada gets good number of reps at 3B starting with the Sea Dogs which could happen very soon now with Benintendi is up at Portland.
  16. There are reports on Tex being potential Red Sox target since he requires shorter term and less financial commitment than guys with the Jays. Nick Cafardo reported this I think.
  17. I hate to talk about this but it's becoming more and more reality as the season ages and it's becoming harder to imagine this lineup without Ortiz next season. However I can't find any report or interviews that give slim chance/hope Papi might reconsider retiring. Let's just say the Red Sox win another WS and Papi follows Peyton Manning. I think the off season priority will be finding a bat that can be inserted right in the middle of the lineup. No bats can probably replace Big Papi but we will need a middle of order bat to maintain high scoring offensive lineup. There are few obvious candidates media is reporting or suggesting and they probably are leading candidates. Who is the guy that you want in middle of this lineup next season?
  18. I'm not worried about his batting avg but my concern about Mookie is his strikeout numbers are up and number of walks are down from this time last year. Through 151 PA in 2015 and 16, 2015: .241/.313/.429/.742 19 K 14 BB 5 HR 5 SB 2016: .246/.291/.401/.693 25 K, 9 BB 4 HR 7 SB Pitchers clearly made adjustment how to attack Mookie by staying away and Mookie needs to figure out how to go to opposite field. Luckily, Mookie has two of the best teachers hitting right behind him. Mookie will be tearing in June.
  19. Hanigan has been great with pitching staff and with Swihart getting reps at LF, I can't see Swihart immediately replacing Hanigan even though he's hitting below Mendoza line. But one positive thing about Hanigan's bat is that he works pitchers and brings good ABs every time he's up there. But I would like to see more bunt signs in situations like last night's game vs the Yanks. As far as Castillo's concerned, I don't think they have plan for him at this moment but to continue to give him consistent ABs at AAA.
