While Henry's snark to Shaughnessy was funny, perhaps he ought to go back and reread his own comments from September before trying to make all the luxury tax discussion out to be a creation of the media. I doubt anyone would be talking about the Red Sox resetting right now if he had not come out and publicly stated their "need" to do so...even the much-quoted walking-back by Kennedy described it as a "goal."
Personally, I've expressed my skepticism several times this offseason that the Red Sox will follow through with getting under the tax line (and in fact argued that right now would be the wrong time to do so), so I have zero issues with this latest news if true...I'm just not sure how much credence any statements from Henry on the subject deserve deserve to be given at this point.
(The line about "reminding" baseball ops that being competitive is the goal was strange, too, fwiw, though I'm unsure what, if anything, to read into it.)
