When have I ever said Kike should be platooned? You're the Kike basher. I have said I'd like to see Cordero play more OF as Dalbec seems to be warming up. I pointed out Kike is not even close to b eing our worst OF'er, and he's they guy you keep ragging on.

Okay, I'm going to say it. I'm not a believer in clutch as a repeatable skill, but I know some here are, and some are also big Bogey fans, especially his offense, but WTF is up with him in key situations with men on base or in scoring position? (He's Story's opposite.) (Just kidding)

He did fine, last year, after a slow start. He played FT and he had good stats, especially for a $7M man. .786 is very respectable. He hit .849 the last 404 of 585 PAs, last year. fWAR since joining the Sox: 7.5 Devers 6.7 Bogey 4.6 JD 4.4 Kike 2.1 Renfroe 2.0 Verdugo 1.6 Story 1.2 Schwarber 0.8 Vaz 0.6 Arroyo He's done very well on defense. Last year, he began his turn around on June 7th, but he was better on June 6th, than this year (by about 80-90 points).

Downs is at a .732 OPS, which is better than half the current Yankee OPS.

Going to the NL would be nice. You know the Yanks will spend to replace him, most likely by upgrading 2-3 positions with the money "saved."

The "same old issue" at 1B had an .819 OPS with 33 HRs in 545 PAs with the Sox going into 2022. The guy we traded, Renfroe, had an .815 OPS with 31 HRs in 572 PAs with BOS before being traded going into 2022. Okay, Bloom may have guessed wrongly, but it's not like it was such a clear choice.

I'm fine with Bloom, and expect GMs to miss on some trades and signings, and we're not even sure he missed on that deal, yet. That doesn't stop me from scratching my head and expressing a different opinion, when I have one. Overall, I really like the direction we are going and Bloom's ability to spot gems like Whitlock, Renfro (Yes, he spotted him to begin with), Wacha, Hill, Strahm, Schreiber (so far), Kike and rentals like Schwarber, Iggy and to a lesser extent Shaw & Robles. I also think the Story signing will end up being a net plus, despite my initial hesitancy, once the named him the 2Bman.

Let's not forget the 40 man roster we had in 2020 cannot really be blamed on Bloom, and as reminder, here is a list of some of the players that played a significant amount of time in that short season: Rank in PAs in '20: 5. JBJ 7. Chavis 8. Pillar 9. Peraza 10, Dalbec 11. Plawecki 12. Arauz (more than 1/3 the PAs as Bogey) 14. Lin 17. Munoz (1/5 the PAs as Verdugo) Rank in IP 1. Perez (Bloom's highest paid FA) 3. Weber 4. Valdez 5. Mazza 6. Godley 7. Brewer 8. Brasier 10. Springs 11. Brice 13. Osich 14. Covey (about 30% of the IP as Eovaldi) 15. Kickham (same as Covey) 16. Stock 17. Walden 18. Hart (almost 20% of the IP Eovaldi had) 20. Hembree 21-.30 Hall, Triggs, Leyer, Tapia (com bined for more than 50% of Eovaldi) Think about just how bad things were in Bloom's first year. He's made some mistakes on the way, most on low cost contracts, but the roster and farm have come a long way in about 2 years.

Add that $5.5M to what we paid Diekman, and maybe we get someone good/better. (Yimi Garcia, Knebel, Raley, Tepera or add a little more and get Jansen)

I think COVID and the whole situation baseball was in played a role in that. Nobody said he's get $420, but he likely would have gotten $350-360M in a normal FA winter, and it's obvious the Sox were set on or near $300M. I wanted him back. I think I suggested longer and larger offers than anyone on this site, but it was never an easy call, and there are big advantages to never offering deals like that. Now, I'm all "Devers Forvers," but depending on wat he ends up getting, I'm not so sure going extra LNL on him is the best way to go. I've already resigned myself to no Bogey. People talk about the Sox not being the Rays, but a better comp might be the Astros, and being like them, might not be so bad. BTW, where did James Click get his start?

I've been rough on Vaz, but when he his about .800 for a couple years in a row, he was not in my doghouse (that much, lol.) He's been a big part of the offensive turn around and has gotten some key rbis. (I'll be surprised, if he's back. We tried to obtain Stallings, this past winter- a great defender and "CERA" guy, apparently, so there is evidence, we are looking to move on.)
