  1. To remind: I’m as anti-Richards as anyone. But fair is fair. Plus I’d like the Sox to win this one.
  2. Nice play, reaction by Chavis on that high hopper.
  3. Right you are. Weaver and the Orioles were both great—before Camden Yards opened.
  4. Right you are. Weaver and the Orioles were both great—before Camden Yards opened. My older son became an Orioles fan because of their success and proximity.
  5. The pig isn't the team as much as it is Peter Angelos. In Earl Weaver's day, the Orioles were pretty good.
  6. And Cora is going with an all-righty lineup except for Devers. Verdugo and Duran are out.
  7. Agree on Camden Yards, where I have watched the Orioles play several times. A tough drive from Fairfax County, however, not so much getting there but getting back.
  8. My info says the Sox are paying Garrett Richards $8.5M. That is a bargain only with respect to what they are paying David Price, $18M--because he is pitching for someone else.
  9. You've won a ton of big games this season and are bound to be in any discussions about AL MVP.
  10. A fair question. I don't know the plan either, but hope he is an option.
  11. Yes, but Cora will also have Houck available for tonight. I was impressed with his 3 shutout innings (and 49 pitches) vs. the Yankees last Friday. Whitlock will also be available, so I don't see Richards getting a lot of leeway tonight unless the Sox run out to an early and big lead. On the other hand, Richards has made some adjustments, and in his 2 July starts he went 5 vs the A's, giving up 2 ER's, and 5 vs. the Phillies, giving up 3 ER's. He starts tonight with 11 days rest.
  12. Indeed. That's the beauty of the modern playoff system--it makes it possible for more teams to go all the way even though the really good teams are still the most likely WS winners.
  13. We do know: Arroyo is on the 10 day IL--bad hammie from the stretch at 1b.
  14. Richards starts tomorrow--when Houck will have had 4 days rest since going 3 vs. the Yankees. This cannot be a coincidence. Whitlock will have had 2 days rest and before going 2 vs the Yankees he had 8 days rest. As much as I don't like Richards, however, I hope he has a good outing tomorrow night.
  15. A great win indeed. Just what this team needed. Credit to Cora for juggling the lineup and for leaving Pivetta in after the 4 runs in the 4th.
  16. Perhaps, but their team ERA is lower than the Sox, 4.01 vs. 4.10.
  17. OK, I like Cora, obviously, but I honestly don't think moving Devers from 5th to 4th in the order fixed his swing. Either he and the hitting coach did it, or the Jays want to keep the Rays in 2d place (or worse) and sent a short message to the Sox players asking which pitches they prefer be thrown to them. Pivetta came out of the 1st looking pretty good.
  18. They have good reason to be depressed--beyond what's happening tonight. Two straight seasons, no home games. That's gotta be tough all around.
  19. Agree, but with the caveat that this team ain't this good if Cora is not managing.
  20. I was being ridiculously facetious. Cora, seeing the team slumping at the plate, decided to change the lineup a whole bunch. Batting Duran 2d vs. a righty starter was genius, but so were all the other changes. Only Hernandez and Plawecki hit where they normally would.
  21. What an idiot Cora is. First he doesn't use Whitlock in game 2 at Yankee Stadium, a game the Sox win easily with Whitlock pitching in a downpour. Now he bats not yet a rookie (this year) 2d in a key game vs. the Jays. Bloom needs to get a new manager in addition to a firstbaseman, a great starter, another bullpen arm, and a partridge in a pear tree.
