  1. But ... why? How is it possible that if the two guys with the best on-base percentage are hitting #1 and #2, that #3 is less important?
  2. I didn’t even realize Elias was gone...
  3. Why is Machado missing? Sorry I haven't been paying attention to the Orioles. Hopefully he's missing because he's packing his stuff for Boston!
  4. I wonder if any team ever has tolerated a center fielder hitting below .200 with enough at-bats to qualify beyond the All-Star break. Pedey - I hope he comes back ... but I think he might have reached the end.
  5. Guess which pitcher is which! Last 4 starts. Pitcher 1: IP 6.0, Hits 5, ER 2, SO 6 IP 6.0, Hits 5, ER 3, SO 7 IP 5.0, Hits 4, ER 2, SO 4 IP 6.0, Hits 3, ER 1, SO 9 Pitcher 2: IP 5.2, Hits 5, ER 1, SO 5 IP 6.2, Hits 3, ER 2, SO 7 IP 5.2, Hits 6, ER 2, SO 7 IP 5.2, Hits 9, ER 0, SO 7 One is Eduardo Rodriguez, the other is David Price. I think they've become remarkably similar recently. Both have become 6 inning, 2 earned run, 7ish strikeout pitchers.
  6. Given the vilification I gave Kelly for the opening day loss, I feel it is my duty to pick Kelly now as my favorite. I owe the guy.
  7. It's mid June already. At what point if it hasn't happened do you lose hope? Mid-July? Mid-August?
  8. Heh, I want Drew Pomeranz to come back, pitch well, and be the centerpiece for the Manny Machado trade
  9. I remember even at the time hoping we'd keep Adrian Beltre instead and just promote Anthony Rizzo to first base. I suspect that would have worked out better than trading for Adrian Gonzalez. Oh well! But no, I don't recommend picking up Adrian Gonzalez now. I think he's done.
  10. Here are Rusney's stats this year in Pawtucket. BA: .316 OBP: .345 SLG: .436 OPS: .781 Even he hits .260 in the majors (his career average), that's a big upgrade over JBJ.
  11. *cough* Rusney Castillo *cough* Hey, it's not your money or mine.
  12. And let's not forget Swihart. Now that he's getting more playing time he's really disappointed. It's just too many holes. I'm really hoping they trade for Lowrie.
  13. You liked Pedey a lot. I’m putting that in past tense because I’m skeptical he has much more to give.
  14. Good morning everyone. I’m officially worried about the Red Sox now. The pitching is great, the offense on life support. I realize with Betts & JDM back in the lineup it’s better, but I think we have too many dead bats any way you slice it. Ironically, part of the solution is to demote JBJ and promote Castillo, but my understanding is that they won’t do it for salary cap reasons. Really a shame. I was on the Swihart bandwagon but I’ve lost it. The guy can’t hit. Devers skipped AAA I believe and it shows. Not everyone can do it. Oh for a Travis Shaw... Moreland is coming back down to career norms now, just as he cooled off last year. Bogaerts will never be as good as he was. He’s not the problem though. Nor is super utility man Brock Holt. Nunez as a utility player is great too, but overexposed as an everyday player. And Pedroia’s not coming back I fear. Sam Travis? Not the solution. Vazquez’s poor offense should be the one player we can live with it from. I hope they make some big trades soon.
  15. Devers has yet to convince me that he is 'core group' material. On the other hand, I'm all board the Hector Velazquez train. Not having Betts for his whole career though, man that would be a huge disappointment. On par with Jon Lester, Roger Clemens, Wade Boggs, and Mo Vaughn's early exits. I didn't get that choked up over Aaron Sele leaving however Then there's that whole Nomar thing; damn that was sad but I understood it.
  16. It seems to me that last night was the Sox showcasing young talent night, and I bet they invited many scouts to come watch. My guess is they think Pedroia is done and want to land a premier second baseman.
  17. Which do the Sox have to resign first given opt-outs, Sale or JDM? My guess is they can only keep one.
  18. The rotation looks worlds better now that Pomeranz is at least temporarily out, replaced by Wright with a 7 shutout inning performance, and Price and E-Rod are the reliable 6 inning wonder boys But yeah, Sale is a bit of a head-scratcher. If he can manage to regain his form - and Mookie comes off the DL - we will be downright scary. I don't think we need Pedroia or Thornburg to return.
  19. Ah, I was wondering, thanks.
  20. I'm skeptical of our ability to keep Sale too. Price ERod Wright Velazquez Beeks or Johnson is what I foresee.
  21. I wasn't so thrilled with it either. I thought Moreland was a waste of space in the second half of last year. So far I'm terribly mistaken.
  22. I still think Johnson is a viable starter too. But today, I'd like to mention our most under-rated starter, Eduardo Rodriguez. He may rarely make it out of the sixth, but when he takes the mound, we usually win.
  23. This is wonderful news. He looks impressive from his AAA stats.
  24. Machado seems like a reach, but if Pedroia really can't come back, I'd like to see Lowrie to the Sox to play 2B.
