    I don't know this for sure. But it seems like the team likes Farrell. Mainly due to things said by players after it was announced he had cancer. I think they played hard for Farrell the second half even though he wasn't with the club, but for his situation. I also think they are playing hard for him now knowing his job is on the line. I'm not sure if Farrell is a great motivator, but the situation he is in and how the team feels about him may be. And in general, the team has a lot to prove after last place finishes. If you looked at each player on the team, you could identify why that person would be motivated.

    I'd gamble on him being a catcher. He's not worth that much elsewhere. It's worth the gamble.

    I think is probably pissed off Perzinsky... which makes it all that much better.

    Swihart will have multiple suitors. How he fits in to our organization going forward means nothing. What the other teams will give up for him is the only question, they are bidding against themselves, not the Sox. Comparing ability between Vasquez and Swihart means nothing. One will be better than the other, and it makes no difference which one is better. One being better doesn't make the second one worse. Taking the gamble at Swihart getting better at the catcher position is the way to go, the payoff could be huge. He has more chance to peak, than decline.

    If they can't get something good in return for Swihart they failed miserably. Maybe it would take adding something else as you said. There is a great base of excellent young talent on this team that is locked up for the next few years. Add in Price.... maybe E-Rod. Adding another strong pitcher by next year this team could be a strong contended for the next few years.

    But Swihart and his potential are still his potential. Having Vasquez take the position has nothing to due with Swiharts potential or ability. So did the move to the roster a couple years before he should have hurt his trade value because other teams didn't see a final product?

    I'm more interested in how you got to that conclusion. Is it what you saw? Is it the pitching performance, are you using stats? I tend to think Swihart may be a sub optimal pitch caller and I don't know why I think that. I was wondering if someone had something behind that thought? Maybe he is a better pitch caller that Vasquez.

    If you own a Ferrari and a Porche, and prefer the Ferarri. It won't make the sale value of the Porche go down.

    I never thought of it this way. I have always thought of one of them being a trade chip. In that case it doesn't matter the playing value to the Sox, just the value to other teams.

    I have a question for you all. How are you rating Swiharts defensive abilities? There's nothing behind this, I just want to know.
