What a great win!! Great great team win!

For any of you that think I'm full of it a troll an idiot etc - no problem - you don't have to read my posts and the threads I create. You want to keep wasting your time - either way noskin off my back. So shoot me- I think on this thread I created some interesting points of topic. I enjoy debates. I think username went over the line and insulted me so I replied in kind. I have no problem with htose that disagree with me- but if you are going to insult - expect a return. And bottomline is- if you don't like what I'm saying / don't like my opinion don't like me personally or think I'm an idiot why bother to post to me or on thereads I create? Other than username who has insulted me and I think he insults others- is there anyone else I've insulted that has disagreed with my opinion? He said I came after him-- look at the order of posts on this thread. He came after me. I'm supposed to take his insults? I enjoy talking the game.
-
Sure he has smoked "some balls." Others have blooped in as well. As much as I don't have stats- I believe Jerry Remy is right. He hasn't been any more unlucky than anyone else.
-
This is so lauaghable. I'm the oen that relied to another poster who said Betts ahs been unlucky and I scoffed at the stat someone tied to use. Theyweren't directed at you. It's ntoall about you, you know? so oyu came back at me - insulting me. Now you say this? Please just stopit. You accuse em of making things up about Betts - yet even last night in 6th inning quote from Jerry Remy in last night's game as Betts is up at the palte: "We see right-handers with Betts trying to keep the ball away." Remy has brought up several times this year that Betts can't handle the pitch away.
-
I didn't have a problem with you on this thread. However it seems not only with just me- anyone that disagrees with your opinion, you always have to let insults fly. If that is not the case I'm sorry but it sure seems that way. What you aren't understanding here on this thread is that I said the pathetic base-running sends by management is symptomatic / another example of all the other failings. In order to be successful you have to pay attention to detail in all areas of the game. These base-running sends by Butterfield are so ridiculous -- it goes beyond being aggressive it is just so obviously stupid. In those plays - the guys chance of scoring was near "nothing." That isn't like the paly from Ortiz last night. That would have been a tight play at the plate. Big difference. The lousy sends are more examples of lousy coaching we are being subject to watch this year. Be aggressive is one thing. Being totally stupid is another.
-
yes but as the poster username suggested on this thread or another - stating that I was oversmiplifying things imo that is what imo you are doing here in the name of being aggressive. Tell me- a ball gets hit to short left field in Fenway we have a runner on 3rd, the guy in left field has a shot gun accurate arm. We have one out. Good idea to send him?
-
Not at all. As I mentioned, if you get thrown out on close play that's one thing. But we've had at least 3 times our guys got nailed when it wasn;t even close. Not even close.
-
No I get it just fine. You don't watch the games - otherwise you'd have heard Remy speak of Betts problems (but of couse you had to personally start with the insults) since early in the season. What you need to do is watch a few games before spouting off your mouth. Just looking at stats isn't the way to my friend. Can always tell about posters like you. You're so transparent. Someone doesn't agree with you - then you throw out insults. If you actually watched some baseball you would have heard Remy say it bout Betts - instead you choose to insult me that I made it up blah blah blah. More crap from people like you - unreal. Watch a game buddy, okay then come back and talk.
-
You certainly were excusing it. You don't think one area of the game can affect another?
-
Your belief is full of crap. You pretend like you know you know what you're talking about but just throw out more crap. I see it. Remy sees it and you keep making up things as you go along. Keep living in the your own fantasy world buddy. he isn't hitting the ball hard. They are pop flys. Laughable the excuses someone like you throws out there. Totally laughable.
-
I bet you pretend you are some kind of expert. Keep living in your own dream world buddy.
-
No-- the massive over-simplification is the excuse that a fundamental such as lousy base-running is okay. I'm not barking up the wrong tree nor did I say this was the only problem just symptomatic of the bigger problem which is losing. And the coaches are allowing a loser mentality to seep in - just as we see they allow the lousy base-running to continue. Play the game the right way. You don't play percentages- you're always going to be a loser.
-
Which tells you that is a useless stat and means nothing.
-
I don't buy this "Betts has hit into hard luck" stuff. His hits the opposite way are soft flyballs. He's a young kid - he needs time. But this stuff he has been unlucky - I say no way. He hits pop ups to rf. He can't quite handle outside pitches yet.
-
Nah. You're not going to be winning more when you have such a cavalier attitude of simple basics. The coaches show themselves as wild gamblers unwilling to play percentages, the players will see that and will do same in kind. Why should they play percentages if they know the coaches don't instill in their team to play percentages? That approach of not playing percenatges is a losers approach and seeps into other aspects of the game.
-
Just as when Allen Iverson made his infamous "practice comments." Winners practice. Winners make right decisions. IMO the coaching staff Butterfield or Farrell or both -- their decisions are a microcosm of the team's current failure's. Thus imo if they were playing winning baseball- the coaching staff wouldn't be making such "blundering" moves such as sending runners that have realistically no chance to succeed. That's what losers do- not winners (you can't win enough when you are that stupid. It also encourages the same stupid reckless behavior from the players ie Ramirez. If you could point to something as simple as lousy base-running- there are probably other factors that the coaches are doing that aren't helping the team win. Loser's mentality only spurs on losing on the field.
-
Obviously I've been a big fan of Farrell for our 2013 title. He made big moves to boot that worked out tremendously. With that said -- the latest base-running blunders is beginning to get way out of hand. 1st off- is Hanley Ramirez one of the most dumbest player's we have ever had in the history of our team? If he isn't - his base-running has to be considered the worst we have ever had. How many times are we going to see mind-boggling base-running blunders from this guy? I still remember early in the year when he blew by a Butterfield stop-sign and wound up scoring on a play he should have been easily gunned down. In the dugout Ramirez and Butterfield were laughing afterwards. This type of behavior leads to more dumb plays. It just makes you wonder if he is this dumb running, - thus in clutch situations how often will he get out-foxed up at the plate? Secondly, Brian Butterfield's decisions to send the runners have been basically awful. One thing we can count on is that the media won't come after him. But Farrell MUST. It's one thing to send a guy home and it's a snap play at the plate. But 3 I can remember- and probably at least one more- he has sent players that got nailed and it wasn't even close. I understand the last fiasco when he sent Napoli vs Minny -- to paraphrase he said he has no heartburn doing it again. The guy that threw the ball home basically lobbed the ball to the plate and Napoli wasn't even close to scoring. This type of stubbornness is ignorant baseball coming forma stubborn coach. Coaching the game ignorantly - ie sending players home with little chance of success - is not a characteristic of a winning type of team. The fact Butterfield si so defiant - that he doesn't need to change or believes he made a mistake is worrisome - imo it sends a message that ignorant gambling baseball without making the more sound move is acceptable. This shouldn't be the case - and I'm not so sure Farrell sees this which is troublesome. IMO in order to be successful you can't promote dumb baseball. The coaches have to lead by example. Sending a guy home with little chance of success is stupid reckless coaching. Someone needs to have the guts to tell Butterfield to cut the crap. If Farrell is endorsing this - then we're in a lot of trouble until he is gone. It's one thing to be aggressive. It's another to bury your head in the sand and continue to push low chance-of-success plays. That's totally stupid. Our managers need to manage the right way and so far in terms of something as simple as base-running, that hasn’t been the case.
-
Nice calls. Two points. 1--- With Hanley either LF or DH. Nothing else at least for this year. I highly doubt he can play 3b anymore (when I say anymore - I mean lf side of the infield.) . And Napoli is pretty good at 1b. I don't think Hanley can handle it. So - platoon Papi and Napoli is a possibility. Holt can play 1b or LF. IMO Papi is a better alternative at 1b than Hanley. 2--- The reason why I question stats so much is sometimes I think some are full of crap. I think Pedroia's defense has been super his year.

Thanks spudboy. Thanks kimmi. Yep I got it backwards. It was the 2seemer Schil said should be scrapped. SO here is what I don't get-- our coach/pitching coach says Kelly needs to throw more curves. While he may need to do-- but Farell focuses on his weaker pitches. Schilling said Kelly is getting slammed with his 2seemer - yet not a word after Kelly's last start of the 2seemer. SO Kelly should throw his subpar curve ball more? What did we see tonight? Our rookie pitcher threw 82% fastballs. If the data shows that Kelly's 2seemer sucks, why the hell isn't Farrell jumping on that rather than speak of the curve? No after I've said this Kelly's 2seemer will probably be his best pitch for the rest of the year. LOL.
-
Not that it matters but I don't think it was Swihart. Secodnly, if oyu have a decent game plan, why not say the game plan was wrong? You wouldn't have ot personally say you made a mistake, right? Recently after game 1 vs Minny, CHili Davis came out and said the hitting game plan was wrong in that the pitcher did nearly opposite than the scouting report. Why not say it with the pitching game plan too? As I said -- Bizzarro World.
-
Sure I could buy what you are saying -- if not for the fact -- why would anyone call so many fastballs? There had to be a game plan, right? If Kelly wanted to throw so many - why didn't the catcher stop it?
-
But if Schilling was right-- and that pitch is getting crushed at a much higher rate-- why throw it at all?
-
Maybe Kelly does suck. But if Schilling is right about the 4sem fastball- which he used stats to show the 4seem isn't good for Kelly why does he continue to throw it? Yes players run through his stop sign. I'm not saying fire the guy. What I'm saying is at least twice so far he has sent players that he had no business sending and the play wasn't even close. Not even close. That last one with no outs was mind-boggling why he sent Naps. Mind-boggling.

The Joe Kelly debacle has me thinking what voodoo curse has been placed upon the Sox. From guys inexplicably playing the worst baseball of their lives to possible mismanagement from GM and coaching staff. 1--- Butterfield has made some unbelievably ignorant "sends" in which guys get nailed and it hasn't been close. OFC he has some others that worked. It doesn't make up for he stupidity. Then to hear Lyons excuse the stupid sends "because it is aggressive" -- you have to wonder what kind of pot are they smoking? 2--- Maybe some of you can answer this-- but when Naps was going through his horrid slump, isn't it the job of the hitting coach to look at tapes to see what might be going wrong? 3--- I know it's been a while- but tell me how many of you were stunned that Cruz was pitched to? I know Farrell apologized for it -- but it was beyond stupid -- way beyond it to pitch to him. 4-- As for Kelly.-- first off his last start our catcher apologizes for calling Kelly to throw so many fastballs? What??????? Didn't you have a game plan? Don't the coaches also go over the game plan? If it wasn't in the game plan then why did you do it- or why didn't the coaching staff stop it? If it was in the game plan, then what type of bullcrap are you feeding us? 5--- Per link below I realize Kelly threw megaton of fastballs. I heard / read the fastballs wound up sliding right over the middle of the plate. Schilling said so much on Nat'l TV weeks ago. He used stats to indicate Kell'ys 4-seem fastball was just silly to keep throwing. He spoke that his 2seem fastball is his weapon. First off- I'm wondering if anyone knows what percentage of 2seem vs 4seem vs Kelly's other pitches did he get lit up with? What I'm getting at is Schilling used stats to state the 4seem fastball sucks for Kelly. SO is he all wet? If Schilling can pick it up why can't the sox coaches-- if in fact Schilling is right? Secondly -- Kelly's curve is mediocre. Sure he should have thrown it a bit more. So maybe Farrell is right- but somehow the way this season is going -- it's like we're in "Bizzarro World" and coaches and players are tanking at historic levels or totally lost their minds all over the course of a couple of months. - It IS BIZZARO WORLD out there in BOSOX Land. I get the feeling Kelly should dump the 4 seem and Farrell is either out to lunch about the curve or feeding us more bullcrap from Bizzarro World. He's made his bones as a pitching coach and is a managerial world champ- I think he must know what he is doing so I'll yield. . . And patiently wait . . . http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/red_sox_mlb/boston_red_sox/2015/05/red_sox_notebook_curve_may_cure_joe_kelly

Farrell on thin ice after winning it all in 2013? I don't believe it. I think it is just internet chatter.
