I don't know how Red Sox fans can, even for a second, question whether or not the Peavy acquisition is good for the team.
Take a closer look at his season.
6 1/3 IP, 12, TWELVE, earned runs, and 15 hits in the two starts before hitting the DL with a fractured rib (nothing wrong with the shoulder that had been troubling him). I think it would be very fair to attribute those 2 bad starts to the rib injury. Prior to that he had logged 7 quality starts in 9 chances.
If you take away those 2 bad starts, before hitting the DL, from Peavy what you get is a pitcher who has gone 73 2/3 innings this season, with a 3.17 ERA and 1.03 WHIP. And you aren't going to get that player for Jose Iglesias + a bunch of nobodies. GREAT trade by the Sox. We just got 2012 Jake Peavy who pitched to a 3.37 ERA over 219 innings!
