  1. Let's be careful. I'm seeing too many people just assuming "Bard would be a decent 5th starter." How do we know this? He hasn't even thrown a pitch as starter yet. And there are plenty of other concerns too that are still hanging out there. I'm not ready to anoint this team as anything but a team that should once again finish 3rd in the division. People are jumping the gun, IMO.
  2. Let's hope to god this finally means we can say good-bye to Darnell.
  3. Better still I'd love to have been a fly on the wall when the Sox appealed to Diva's sense of 'team' and asked if he'd consider taking less so they could sign better talent.
  4. What's like pouring salt on an open wound is how ownership and the FO talk about brining Big Diva back as their biggest and most important "FA signing" of the winter. Where the hell do they think he was going to go? Do they really think there was somebody else stupid enough to pay him even close to what he's going to get from the Sox via arbitration? If there was we certainly never heard about it, and I've got some news for you---neither did Big Diva.
  5. Not to someone who understands the game.
  6. Good observation. We are playing for 3rd place this year. And even that's not a lock, watch out for the Jays. They've got better SP right now. We may well be looking at a 4th place finish this year.
  7. It should be clear to everyone now they're in a rebuilding mode, why not trade Youkilis and give Middlebrooks the playing time?
  8. That's exactly what the speculation is, Fred---that if Scutaro goes it's payroll relief to bring in either Floyd or Ross. If that's the case I'm all for it.
  9. "They expected him to decline it,"---ya right, no friggin' way. They knew as well as the rest of us that he was going to accept it. It was a no brainer for him. I still maintain that keeping Big Diva around for PR purposes for the 100th celebration played a role in their decision to bring him back. How much is debatable, but IMO they needed someone who played a major role in the two WSCs still in the fold. Diva played such a huge role in both that he was the obvious choice as an ambassador of PR.
  10. With all due respect, this is the kind of attitude that does the most damage. By simply resigning yourself to cheering for CC because he's signed long term is enabling ownership and the FO to continue to think these types of signings are acceptable. We have to do the complete opposite. If CC continues to suck he needs to be booed off the field mercilessly until the situation becomes untenable, thus forcing ownership to eat his contract and move him. That's the only way these dumbass owners will learn.
  11. I like the top one.
  12. I admire your optimism, but I will only be convinced these two greedy, useless pieces of s*** aren't coming back when the final out is made in game 162 in Sept. I put nothing past the levels to which this ownership group is willing to pander to their sacred cows. Nothing!
  13. Exactly.
  14. I'm still pissed that McDonald's name is still in the mix. How the hell anyone thinks this stiff belongs anywhere near a major league roster is beyond me.
  15. I agree with you 100% that he's been a lazy sack of s*** at times in the past, but I disagree that what happened last year will motivate him to step it up this year. Fatboy is a punk, an arrogant punk of the highest caliber. I fully believe he'll dig in his heels and just tell everyone to "f*** off" before he'll try and endear himself to the fans by stepping up his game and having a banner year.
  16. Henry's wife's comments spoke volumes when she spoke about him being happy to be home so he could see the soccer match after his 'fictional' slip on the yacht so he didn't have to face the media over the Tito flap. Similar to what he was when he first bought the Sox, Henry is considered a rock star in soccer world right now. Here he's been nothing short of a punching bag over the way the team's been handled the last four years. You do the math. Henry would sell the team in a heartbeat in the money was right. Let's hope someone more responsible does just that---steps up and makes him an offer he can't refuse. The days of this organization winning anything on Henry's watch are long gone.
