  1. Another one just STUNG by a Red Sox hitter.
  2. Cashewnuts is up and throwing. What a relief. I certainly feel better knowing he is coming into the game.
  3. Just another 2019 memorable moment.
  4. Notice how in what is a pretty critical inning an a rainy night the Phillies went past the Sox like they were standing still. The Sox of course did absolutely nothing in the bottom of the 5th. They do have a few players on this Phillies club but they are certainly not any sort of world beaters.
  5. I know Splinter knows that you never ever listen to OB...not ever....not for nothing...certainly about anything baseball.
  6. Guerin looks particularly fetching tonight. Fetch dog fetch.....woof....woof.
  7. There has been no middle ground with this team's everyday players. They have gone from playing too loose early in the season literally throwing their gloves out on the field and expecting good things to happen just because to playing tight as drums with no period this season when there has been a middle ground.
  8. Harper did not even swing hard. Just hit a lazy fly ball which is all it takes these days.
  9. This game is going to be played out IMO. If this season to date is a harbinger, these squanders are going to end up meaning something eventually.

  11. Nola totally dominated our RH hitters and as he got farther into the game that got worse, not better unfortunately. A team that was heavy LH hitter dominant instead of heavy RH hitter dominant should give a much better accounting of itself v Nola. As much as the off handed hitter/pitcher thing is a factor in baseball Nola almost takes it to an absurd level.
  12. I like BJ mainly because he is a throw back to when we actually had PITCHERS pitching MLB. He really only has to do two things: 1) Cut down on the 3-2 counts (a matter of leaving behind this insane notion that you get to 0-2 and then waste 3 pitches which infects almost the entire Sox pitching staff) 2) Leave fewer mistakes just hanging there right in the middle of the plate. If he can do those two things at least regularly enough, he will go 6+ and maybe even a full 7. Finally some additional durability might be attractive. But who is durable any longer pitching MLB....maybe 15 guys total both leagues.....tops?
  13. And I suspect Henry still feels "wounded" by Theo over Carl Crawford and Theo still feels undercut by Henry. I expect Theo to be back here someday. But its been 8 years.....now and I STILL don't think that is enough for either Henry or Theo. Probably 8x2 might be enough.
  14. Beane had a proven track record of being deeply devoted to a statistically driven process. For a guy who runs a financial management company, Beane was as much a known quantity as Henry was ever going to find. If Beane had done something as GM that "surprised" Henry he probably would have fallen over from a heart attack on the spot.
  15. I think DD deserves to go, in fact needs to go. But the Sale deal is just part of that...not nearly the entirety of it. DD is not well equipped to take this team forward. Plain as the noses on our faces. Problem is Henry will only hire the devil he knows. No interest in the devil he does not know. That probably limits his field of options by a good bit.
  16. Would another team given Sale $145/5 as a FA? I very very seriously doubt it.
  17. No Red Sox Manager will ever be allowed by upper management to act like he is out of it until he is mathematically eliminated. You would be kidding yourself to think otherwise. Example: Look at how the NESN studio crew has handled the Sale Elbow. Wakefield just Sunday: "He has some inflammation in the elbow. [shrugs shoulders]. He rests and comes back to pitch." YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING WAKE! Not only do you know better from experience. Being a Sox insider, you likely knew better on Sunday IN FACT. Cora won't really be able to act like he is out of it until he is actually out of it. Neither will anybody else in that organization. Every personnel move will be a move designed to "help our chances to win" etc etc etc....until we are mathematically eliminated. "Welcome to the Sox PR department Alex. They have some recommendations for you....to go along with the recommendations from the data information services dept."
  18. Notice also that Nola is one of the few starters left, either league (NL has more of this endangered species than AL) that actually CHALLENGES hitters. If you don't swing at his pitch, as much movement as there is on it, its still then a called strike more often than not. Nola was at something like 59 pitches through 5 complete. You don't do that either nibbling or always trying to get every hitter to chase which is the staple of the Red Sox starting rotation.
  19. We were down 3-2 last night when Cora pulled Johnson in the 4th. Given the circumstances, there was zero chance of Cora leaving BJ in through the 5th as Cora could not assume that the Sox would came back and gain the lead in the bottom of the 4th and he certainly was not going to risk BJ in the 5th. In other words, there was literally no reason to leave Johnson in at the point he was removed if the matchup dictated otherwise. BJ was not going to stay in long enough to get a win. Nola was totally dominating our RH hitters which is where the bulk of our offense resides in spite of Rafi and Beni. Last actual shot we had at winning that game was bottom of the 7th when we had Beni leading off followed by Vaz who was giving us our best RH AB's v Nola followed by three LH hitters in a row. Nola basically mowed them down and that was that.
  20. We should probably turn the discussion of when to extend or if to extend on its ear. Given his late season issues now well documented, given his shoulder injury from 2018, why did we extend at all when we did. Could have just as well waited for Sale to become a FA and it would not have cost us a dime if we wanted him back. It should have been obvious to the Sox that there were issues or they would not have developed a program specifically tailored around the idea that allowing him to work slowly into the season would save him for the end of the season, an effort that obviously FAILED!
  21. Somebody please remember that my run as GT thread starter ended with this loss. As usual I will probably start one today (Wednesday) if nobody starts one by game time. Hoping somebody gets there before me.
  22. Ruins a really good performance patched together by the pitching staff against a legit pitching star in Nola.
  23. Funny how its always a guy with reasonable to excellent speed that tries the play X tried.
