Fine credit Beckett for hanging tough without his best stuff but if you want to be encouraged by this outing I think you are wearing blinders.

Fine...is Beckett's FB better than it was in Detroit? Did he not go to his offspeed stuff out of necessity in this game as opposed to by design? Go ahead...don't worry about him...he's just fine just like he is.

Sorry about that...right 7 and 1/3. Still think there is something wrong with him and still don't think his offspeed stuff is good enough to get away with 91-92 to good hitting teams. I think it is something like 94 pitches for 8 full now.

It does not have to be pretty...but using the Rays for a barometer is a joke. They can't hit! They don't know how to hit! They aren't as a unit experienced enough to hit. Why do you think Josh's pitch count is so low? Credit goes to Lester for the way he has pitched, to some extent to Buch for the way he has pitched and to Bard for showing pretty decent in a first outing. I think Josh is hurt and the more they keep running him out there if he continues to throw that 91-92 mph doing nothing FB he will get tagged by teams that can hit better than the pathetic Rays...which means most of the teams in the AL.

The Rays have really let Josh off the hook. The Rays have not picked up at all on the fact that Josh is throwing much more offspeed stuff and is even starting them off with offspeed. They are still swingin' at first balls like they expect FB and Josh is not throwing his FB right now. The Rays are not only pathetic hitters they don't seem to know how to hit. Any decent hitting team would be layin' off the first ball junk balls Josh is throwing up there and waiting on that nothing FB that he has shown for two outings now. Since we all have our Bard-o-meters running full time, I was much more impressed with the way Bard handled his first start than the way Josh has looked in either of his. I still think there is somethin' goin on with him. Thumb or something else. The mantra before the season started was that we needed 1, 2, 3 in the rotation to show up sound and pitching well. Lester has pitched well and is sound. Beckett may not be sound and has not pitched well. Buch was so-so in his first outing and has a history of being the more fragile of the three. Good f-ing luck!

That was a much better inning of pitching by Josh. Depending more on offspeed and keeping the hell away from that nothing FB
