  1. I wonder if Davis HR totals will prompt more players to go to that unbalanced bat with all the weight up in the barrel....like swinging an ax. Saw tape of #32 for Davis. He could have made that swing from a hammock. Just not even trying. Obviously have to be strong enough to handle that kinda' bat but it is not like he is putting these mighty strokes on balls. He is just dropping the head on the ball for the most part.
  2. Well that was a long out in early April or late September
  3. Boy looking at the HR numbers at the half way mark...wayyyyy off last year's numbers MLB wide. Guys like Davis going nuts but by and large HR numbers are way down. Regardless of the warmer weather, don't see a way for MLB to make up that big a year over year dif.
  4. Well that sucked....that looked like a ball Napoli should not have even tried to put a swing on that ball. So I guess we deserve it.
  5. Webby only using two pitches lately. May only need two to get these guys.
  6. Boy has Ells turned it around since he stopped trying to jerk the ball over the RF fence. If Boras put that s*** into his head that is just one more reason I owe Boras a swift kick in the nuts.
  7. Is somebody going to start a 7/4 game thread? I know members really like to start them which is why I never even think to try.
  8. Well now what...we were thinking we would move guys around to keep Horty and now Horty walks. I wonder if the concussion issue really has him spooked. I think he is looking for a soft cushy spot, like back in Florida where nobody will bother him for coasting through regular season games. There he could play out his career at $5M plus comfortably. I don't expect to see Horty on a cup contender but I could be wrong.
  9. Latest is that AH is going to try go get married before trial so that his GF will not be put in a position of having to testify against him. Hmmmmm....must be a few things she could say that AH does not want to have hear in open court. What a mess...what a waste of a life. I feel more sorrow than anger. Pro sports are supposed to be a way out for kids that might be headed the wrong way...not an enabler that just allows them to continue to foster dangerous behavior in themselves and their acquaintances. Did nobody step in here and tell AH how much he was just throwing away in order to continue what appears to be a real double life? GF must have known....as I suspect others did.
  10. I would move him back after the ASB as long as they are going to let him play.
  11. Can't say I am ever thrilled to see a pitcher cut down on his offerings. But Webby is young. They are probably just trying to simplify things for him for now.
  12. Lester really did settle after the 1st inning. Has pitched well now two games in a row. Thought he was headed for trouble the way some of those pitches were located. But he has done well.
  13. Conversely, Lester is still making some bad pitches. Lately there seems no middle ground with him. He is either trying to be right on the edge of the edge of the black or the thing is right down Main St.
  14. Volquez has made some terrific pitches so far. Has not been credited in some cases but terrific pitches none the less.
  15. Jeez NESN can you just keep this s*** away from actual game activity. God I hate the way NESN just sucks away so much time for this crap.
  16. Lester only gave up 1 though and 1st innings have not been great for him. I would be surprised if that one run decides this game.
  17. Wonder who will close tonight and if Farrell will decide that this is a night when he needs to preserve Ueh. I mentioned in another thread (and damned if I can remember which) that I was not impressed with Ueh as Closer. That was a poor choice of words and I want to correct that here. I have been impressed but I am just not at this point sold on Ueh as Closer. He would have had me if he had come into that Toronto game and gotten through that 9th inning unscathed. That to me was a big opportunity for him cause he had not to that point faced the meat of any order in a close opportunity. For me, not being able to close the show in that game, combined with the need to protect him is why I am not at this point sold. Clearly he will get more opportunities though and I will either see enough to be "sold" on Ueh as Closer or not. But I am impressed more I guess with his total body of work so far this year than just what he has done as a Closer.
  18. It is real common with two outs and especially two outs with anybody from 6-9 coming up. I did not like the running play in the first inning cause I think early in games you want the chance to rally even with two outs. I would have preferred seeing Naps come up with runners on 1st and 3rd and the pitcher pitching from the stretch early in the game even with two outs. I would want to take my chances with that instead of trying to get the runner in from 1st for a single run in the 1st inning.
  19. Well I do not know about that. It has become such common practice in MLB now to force the defense to cut the ball off and get the sure out on the base runner allowing the run to get home without an attempt at a play there. Just about everybody plays it that way now. I think we have done it twice in this game.
  20. Nice shot by Snyder. Couple feet higher or even toward straight away and that is likely a HR.
  21. That is a long way for a guy like Naps to go to get to a baseball. Couple squib hits are all the Padre's have to this point. Sox need to put up some runs here.
  22. This is two games in a row that Lackey is really attacking the strike zone hard.
  23. That is a pretty normal number (23) for a new guy like Snyder. The Sox have not given him something like the ever popular number 68.
  24. What......Loney only in how he has changed his approach at the plate. Loney does not have the potential to hit for power that WMB has. Bats is much closer IMO to what WMB could become. But go ahead though. You have not presented a single piece of actual information through this whole discussion. I would hate to see you break a perfect record now.
  25. Well I suppose with 2 outs that was an OK gamble by Butterfield. Scoring from first though....I don't know....I would like to have seen Napoli get a shot. One run in the 1st inning of this game is probably not that big a deal. I wonder if you can just plain earn such a reputation for going all the time that teams really hustle the ball back to the infield every play cause they are no longer guessing that you might go...they are just about sure you are going to try it.
