  1. Peavey's money is ridiculous. Just the kind of money for just the kind of player that the Sox should stay away from. In fact I have not at all bought the idea that Buch prompted the second opinion. The Sox prompted that because they had just had enough and needed to be able to make a decision based on facts, not Buch's nightmares. The Sox pushed for it and pushed Buch right into an actual schedule for his return as soon as he got back from Dr. Andrews. So, in part I think positive news on Buch pushes the Sox away from the table on Peavey if they were ever at the table in the first place.
  2. Not sure what thread to put this post in. But since the Pedey deal news has firmed up (7 years, 100k) doesn't it sound like Pedey has done something like we often credit Brady for doing with the Pats...meaning has left some money on the table for the Sox to use...maybe to be more aggressive on Ells. maybe something else.
  3. Lee would be the only starter that would peak my interest. However it looks like he is not going to be offered.
  4. I think Workman has shown us that he can slot into the 5 hole for the Sox. Buch appears to be in a position to make it back at some point this year....mid to late August is probably a best case but no reason to believe at this point it won't happen. Buch coming back even late probably seals the deal on something like Peavey. Don't think it will happen and probably should not happen. Get us two more guys for the pen and we are likely as set up as we are going to be to make whatever run we are going to make this year. If Young puts Iggy back at SS permanently then Young is short money to resolve that issue. So maybe Young would be OK as well. Please two arms for the pen though.
  5. The danger now is what happens while he is working to regain his arm strength. Buch makes styrofoam cups look like Abram's tanks in comparison. They will have no choice but to build him back slowly and even then he might hit a snag. I don't understand why after all these years he does not know his own body well enough to know what was happening to him. Dr. Andrews is describing something that every athlete, pro and amateur participating in seasonal sports goes through over and over again during a career. Between Lester, Buch, Bard and Aceves a sports psychologist could have made a steady living just off the Sox pitching staff.
  6. Moore is a great pitcher that pitched the his best game this year. However, if you think he pitched that well by accident you are dreaming. Madden pumps that team up something fierce to play the Sox. I'm sure he was pumping that team's tires all day long leading up to this game and will be pumping them up all day long leading up to tomorrow's game as well. The guy simply never leaves any stone unturned in an effort to gain a competitive edge. Unfortunately he usually finds pay dirt under those stones.
  7. Welcome to playing the f***ing Rays late in the season. Frankly it is getting easier and easier to hate the f***ing Rays.
  8. This is not a very scientific cut but we have 28 games remaining against teams that are either in 1st or 2nd in their respective divisions. The Rays have 27 left. These numbers include tonight's game. We have 31 home and 31 away games left. The Rays have 28 home and 35 away games left. I think the Rays got rained out in Cleveland twice in a row. Those might be two extra games in hand but they would also be in Cleveland. Not really sure about the rain outs.
  9. As for WMB, he is in more trouble now than when he left. Now he is totally in limbo.....he either has to change a lot or adapt to the swing he is using now, one or the other. Instead he is stuck right in the middle and not making much progress last I actually saw him swinging.
  10. Tonight he looks like he is choking up a bit with two strikes but right down on the butt end with less than two. Hard to tell with the black gloves on the black handle.
  11. Interesting...Naps is carrying his hands low on the handle of the bat again tonight. Last night he was farther up the bat handle even with less than 2 strikes than I have seen him and I liked that from him last night. No idea why he has gone back to this grip tonight.
  12. Moore looks better tonight than when I saw him earlier this year. f***ing Rays always seem to build momentum the second half. What I most hate is that all four of these games will likely be like tonight's game...not to say we will be behind all game long or lose them all but I would bet that even in this ballpark they will all be like this...tight, close, tense ballgames where an error here or there really hurts you. Maybe Salty can get a convenient flu for the next four days.
  13. Workman's up to 84 and is young. I would guess something like 6.1 innings maybe.
  14. OUT.......bad call at 1st.
  15. That's the guy I was talkin' about Native. I never found out for sure but I assumed at the time that the test handler really took it on the chin, like lost the job etc...maybe not.
  16. Workman is getting a lotta' plate with that FB.
  17. Noticed the Braun suspension came down today. Braun hoped the fans, teammates etc could "forgive him" as he knows he has made some mistakes. Wonder if he will ask the test handler that he cut to shreds for his forgiveness.
  18. I think one of the toughest things for a young pitchers is getting stuck pitching out of the stretch almost from the first batter. It is not easy for any starting pitcher to pitch from the stretch that early on but that much tougher on a young guy. Wish he could have just gotten into a nice groove instead.
  19. The other thing I noticed about Workman's curve last time out is that since he does not have a rep in the Majors yet, the ump was giving up on his curve. He threw more curve ball strikes than he got credit for last time out.
  20. Workman looked a little like this his first outing. Got away without using many curves last time but it does seem like he really needs that pitch to make his FB effective. Rays tagging the FB so far.
  21. Hope Workman has command of his curve tonight. He pitched well the last time out but really could not use the curve. He can be real fun to watch when he has that thing working...not to mention being that much harder to hit.
  22. Dr. Andrews also reported that the source of Buch's discomfort is inactivity. He feels soreness because he is not pitching enough and when he does throw, his muscles are responding with soreness because of the inactivity. Inactivity in the middle of the season.....In other words...Buch did it to himself.....What a joke!
  23. Dr. Andrews reports that: 1) No structural damage to Buchs shoulder....original diagnosis correct according to Andrews 2) Buch's soreness stems from INACTIVITY. He is continuing to suffer soreness because he has been pitching so infrequently, even throwing so infrequently that when he does throw, he comes up sore. What a joke....
  24. I figured somebody would get on to that one.
  25. I agree with UN....two BP arms would do wonders for our chances and would inherently be less costly in prospects than starters....even one starter. Think of where we would be if Ueh does end up overused. We are really down to no tread left on the BP tires.
