  1. Part of becoming a really good pitcher and not just a thrower is not allowing the other team's big guns to beat you. That is why it is not unusual for a good pitcher to have some ugly dinger stats. He will take his chances with a slugger with nobody on base....may try some things to get him out that he will never try with even just one runner on base. But put a runner on base...same pitcher against the same slugger and said slugger gets nothing he can really drive anywhere.
  2. Ells will eventually figure out that he has to stop trying to pull that pitch or pitchers are going to make his September miserable.
  3. or even know that you were dying:D:D
  4. One run HR's don't win ball games unless they come as walk off's in the 9th. Amazing how many pitchers really do succeed just keeping base runners off the bases...can give up one run dingers till the cows come home and still win games.
  5. Wow I would not have thought that LA's defense would have done them in tonight. But it has.....I don't even think WMB gets sent home if the CF does not bobble the ball. If he played the ball cleanly and WMB did get sent, he would have been out by a mile. He was not safe by that much even with the bobble.
  6. No way to justify bunting there....Schill won't even credit Farrell with having done it because it is such a bad idea instead insisting that Vic did it own his own...that might in fact be right...why don't you do it early in games???? You just saw why. All it takes is one base runner and a dinger and the game is tied just like that. You don't kill the chance to rally early in games....no game situation that makes that work unless you can dream up bringing back Sandy Kolfax to face Bob Gibson in a game for all the marbles. Neither team might score a run in eighteen innings in that game!
  7. I assume you are all listening to this discussion on Buch. In other words as I have said for a long time now...they had f***ed up Buchs return five ways from Sunday way back in the period right after June 8th and here we are...late August and Schill questioning whether Buch can even be a factor in the post season at this rate.
  8. You still don't give up outs to try to score a single run this early in a game. Late in a close game in a situation where your opponent may simply not have enough outs left in a game to come back from your one run is when you give up outs like that. Early in games, you want to give yourself the chance to rally and outs kill rallies.
  9. Oh come on...you don't give up outs this early in a game...that just does not make sense when the guy is already in scoring position.
  10. Ramirez has got to be kicking himself. Bouncing throws to 1st isn't getting it done.
  11. Pitchers have been getting Ells to chase lately. That is exactly how this guy is trying to get Ells out again
  12. Don't think you can really say that for sure. No telling how Capuano would have pitched Napoli if the situation had been different. Baseball is the one game where every mistake made by the ump might well account for runs in one way or the other. I think replay will be a good thing and I am not convinced the games will be longer because if you challenge, you can't argue a call...you can argue or you can challenge....you can't do both.
  13. In fact the Pedey play at 1st did not even look like a close play. The shadows make it look like the sun is setting over right field. So the ump cannot even use that excuse. Really bad call...but we will take it of course.
  14. Jesus Will all you had to do was keep the f***ing ball off the ground....strike out for crying out loud!
  15. Wow....talk about a direct challenge...walking a right hand batter to load the bases to get to another RH batter Will
  16. I think it more likely than usual that there will be a bench brawl between the Rays and Angels. That is a lotta' one team to see in a short period and Maddon can be the most maddening person on the planet. Meanwhile....A RUN!
  17. Having Lester pitch like this make a huge impact on the starting pitching. Really we are winning these days when we do win on starting pitching and Ueh. At least in the NL games it has been tough to get to Ueh though. Farrell may have to start to trust these starters a bit more so that it is easier to get to Ueh. With Lester pitching like this, even without Buch this is a really good rotation. That said, they probably still need Buch to make a real run at it. This team has the potential to go a lotta' innings without scoring many runs. There best shot seems to be being able to go toe to toe with starting pitching in a seven game series. Without Buch they might lose game one to somebody like Detroit. But after that they can go head to head with anybody. Then again, in a seven game series, you are facing some monster like Scherzer in games 1 and 4.
  18. Amazing how Ueh forces the hitter to swing...everything is a strike...and even his dipping, zipping, zinging s*** stays in the zone
  19. My mistake...Farrell brought Ueh back
  20. Oh my God Ells what the f***. Another run would have been really nice here especially with Ueh out of the game. This team better wake up some time this month or next or they will find themselves playing golf instead of baseball.
  21. Mattingly heads to the mound "gimmie' that baseball you turkey...letting the rook get his first ML hit like that....get in the dugout loser!"
  22. Taz may be running on empty again even with the reduced work load.
  23. Verducci is setting a new low for broadcasting standards. Pitiful!
  24. Imagine the year Lester could have had if he threw with the kind of confidence he has shown lately all year long? Man he would have been a monster this year. He has thrown inside today, has moved the ball around and even not getting the low strike has not deterred him (although he is not happy about it).
  25. Good time for the O's to have to play the A's. Maybe by the time the A's are done, the O's will be stuffed down there far enough to not be a threat.
