  1. I think the Sox will make Ells an offer consistent with the way they are approaching salary related issues and especially big contracts. I doubt that it will be enough but IMO they are going to make as much of an effort as they think they can make to sign him.
  2. Get our first chance to see him in the ML's and you are smart enough to know that is what I meant smart ass.
  3. I think you are right sk. It does appear that Lester is on the back nine. I think his best shot at staving off a deeper decline than he should suffer would be to pitch like he did in SF because it at least gives him a chance to win. If he finally gets that, he will be in much better shape even with the decline in the quality of his pitches. He has got to go out there and attack hitters. There is no other way for him to pitch and I think he has enough left to do that. He is frustrating when it appears that he does not think he has enough left to do that.
  4. I am guessing that Workman will get one start if the Sox see at least one start if the Sox see a pitching matchup they like. Frankly I would prefer Workman to Demps anyway at this point.
  5. Get our first chance to see XB tonight
  6. Very nice win even though it is just SF. Although we usually hate these west coast swings I cannot think of a better time for the Sox to get the hell off the east coast than after the Sunday night debacle.
  7. Fenway west gives jon the standing O
  8. Smart move here. Just throw a few strikes..let them hit it and see if you can get outta' the 9th fast. Don't dick around jon...just let them hit it
  9. That last hit is going to kill Lester's shot at CG. Too much time between innings. He be done.
  10. Jon deserves the shot at the CG here unless there is something Farrell or Nieves sees that bothers them. If he gets in trouble he could top 125 and that would bother me. But if he can get through a ninth inning quickly that would be OK.
  11. That was a bad walk....up 5 late just let him hit it before you walk him. Good thing Jon has an out here. I think he would be out of this game with no outs
  12. If we win series that should be enough....If we don't win series (and we have not been of late) that will be a problem. I don't think they can hold the Rays off losing series.
  13. f***ing Rays won again. Looks like it will be us and them to the end with the yanks and O's trying to play spoiler.
  14. I don't see this Giants team able to come back on the Sox....not from 5 back. This has not been a great power offense anyway. It has been a process offense much like what the Sox have had this year. Looks like the Giants have lost the formula. Besides if you are going to let the relief pitcher pitch late behind 5 with a guy on, you have got the white flag up.
  15. Jon did not deserve that first walk. Hopefully it won't end up mattering
  16. Notice Jon is not overusing the Cutter tonight. That has also worked out much better for him. Problem with his cutter especially if he uses it too much is that if hitters don't swing at it, it is often called a ball and it ends up being a pitch that contributes to Jon getting behind and also getting frustrated. If he does not overuse it, it can be an effective pitch for him.
  17. Like I said early in the thread, this should be the kind of game that Jon would come out and pitch this way. But he has got to get it into his head that if he does not pitch this way, he gives himself no chance to win. It is not like that seeking the edge of the edge pitching style works some nights....it does not work any night...against anybody. Sure he has lost a little off his FB but not that much...certainly not enough to justify pitching the way he pitches some nights.
  18. I can't really say that the DH makes for inherently better baseball. It can make for more offensive baseball and more challenge for pitchers. But I cannot say that it is inherently better. The Sox already have three runs. So they might have scored more if WMB got to bat or if Lester was not a "Lamb" as Eck called him. But as a team you either score more runs than the other team or you don't. What is the dif in that respect if the final score is 8-6 or 4-3?
  19. Eck talking about the SF earthquake at WS time. I am sure many of us were watching that whole bizarre thing as it was going down....very strange time. While there was so much damage and lives lost, I kept thinking how terrible it would have been if a deck had completely, totally collapsed with all those people in the stands.
  20. TL throwing everything but the kitchen sink to get Ortiz out
  21. So far so good for Jon. He is showing a lotta' his stuff early but he is attacking and he is not allowing the hitters to just control the whole plate.
  22. Can't stand that McDonald's "one more bite" commercial. Just kick his skinny ass out of line for Christ's sake.
  23. Boy what do you do if you are a Tim Lincecom? Does not have the heater any longer and if the splitter is not down in the zone it could just as well be a change up in the zone....meat.....at $20m per year.....Holy Cats
  24. Good to see Jon smile for a change
  25. As I recall he was asked and didn't respond. Everybody and his brother figures it is injury related and I doubt there is any other reason. Nice start for Jon.
