Although as we were discussing the other night when Jon was pitching, Fenway absolutely punishes LF pitchers. They have to be pretty close to perfect to escape here. This start for Felix was about as far from perfect as it gets.
You almost want to have 4 RH and 1 LH starter in a Sox rotation just because of Fenway. Two LH pitchers starting in Fenway is almost a penalty before you even start a game or a series unless you can do a good job of separating them or spotting them up against certain teams or certain lineups. It is however no small matter to have two guys throwing fro the left side as starters in Fenway Park.
What a cluster-f*** of a start...what a cluster-f*** of an inning. It was like Felix was placing the ball right in the heart of the plate at the belt line or missing the plate altogether. They were bound to have one of these at some point. At least against this opponent we still have a shot to win the game.
I hope the teams we are really competing with don't have many games with these chumps. They have packed it in already....in August!
Sox are building up some amazing starting pitching stats.
Ortiz will work his way out of this. My only issue is when because he is swinging at some pitches he should not be swinging at, his hands are now all over the place and he has been late on the FB.
Trying too hard to pull the ball will go away for sure IMO. Swinging at bad pitches for Ortiz is a matter of frustration IMO not bad pitch recognition. So I think that goes away as well. His hands being all over the place and his timing being off will also go away.....just a matter of when.
The sooner he stops swinging at junk and/or stuff he has never been able to hit for a career and the sooner he gets over this whole thing of trying to knock everything over the RF fence, the faster everything else will come back.
Ah yes lad...what did you do?
One must remember that sacrifice is considered most likely to succeed if the sacrificed is completely innocent and free of any wrongdoing. It does no good to sacrifice damaged goods as the recipient may actually react angrily to such a slight. So to the question of what....nothing.....over the lip of the volcano you would go none the less......I guess in your case, bed and bedding as well since those devoted to this idea appear prepared to carry you out to your doom four poster and all.
Ueh is unbelievable. If Farrell burns him out I am personally going to run right down there, kick Farrell right in the nuts and run like hell.
When pitchers run out of gas it all happens very quickly. They are OK one day and then the next....uhoh!
Well that was a nothing pitch Taz
Followed by another nothing pitch
This is the only thing that worries me about Ueh..Taz has clearly IMO run out of gas
While this is only the WS, it is sort of interesting that Dempster went off for his little vacation unable to keep the ball down at all for several games. He has once again found a way to keep the ball down at least for this game. Really has not been up nearly as much as he has been of late.
I don't even want to think about how much more difficult things would be for Sox pitchers if they did not have Ells and Vic basically tracking down everything in CF and RF...and I do mean everything. Ya' gotta' hit a home run to get anything done to those two fields.
I wonder if Ventura will end up taking some heat for the way the WS have played. I suspect their problems are way beyond anything he can do. But you never know when the perception is that a team is not just bad but underperforming.
