The only sure things for this pen in the post season at this point is Kembrel closing though he has been shaky lately. There is nobody else that can close. BJ in long relief. Valazquez because he is only guy we have that has proven to have a resilient arm. Brassier has to be worked back to back to see if he can hold up to that and they have to try Barnes back to back as well though I am not hopeful in his case. Kelly probably does not have a role either and Thornburg is to this point a basket case. Somebody besides Valazquez has got to prove to have a resilient arm because post season Cora is not going to run his cast of thousands bullpen out there hoping somebody is well enough rested or has something. You end up running the same guys out there night after night and they have to stand up to that. They should bring Workman back up to see what he has also. He used to have a resilient arm. Now I just don't know.

I am not convinced Hembree even has a role in the post season. But this is the time to find out...NOT THEN.

BJ found a way to control their RH hitters mainly with that Curve Ball.

Eck may not like it but I would defy most of the managers in MLB to do as much with nothing as Cash has done with nothing. He has pulled every managerial move out of his butt that he had and some that nobody has had just trying to have a respectable season. His team is no better than a number of the AAA or AAA+ teams running around in MLB unis and its actually worse than most. But he still is just barely over 500.

Well then I present the bullpen. This is not going to go like s*** through a goose in the post season and a zillion regular season wins really does not mean much to me unless it leads to something real in the post season. At this point anything less than a WS appearance is going to be something of a let down. Plus I have no idea what worrying about your home team has to do with enjoying its play. The two things are mutually exclusive.

About BJ tonight..YES. We are going to give up some games in these last 40 anyway because Cora needs to make some decisions about this pen. So while I want to see the real rotation, not BJ getting something of a break down the stretch. I would prefer BJ not blow up in the first two innings.

Would like to see us get something out of this inning. Got a bad feeling about the way BJ pitched that first inning. That was ugly.

Those were all hideously bad pitches that got tagged too. Rays are checking their watches thinking it must be 6:00 and its still BP.

I don't even want him doing that. Cora has to cycle through some guys and find some arms that will actually play post season. I don't want to give Pom an inning. I don't want to give him an out.

He has no spot on the club. He can't start, can't get the FB above 90 even relieving and does not have a resilient arm any longer.

So here is an example of why this pen is in trouble though I commend Cora for doing what I asked..starting to work through these guys to see what he has. That said, he needs resilient arms for the post season. Does he have any in this bunch? Pom....NOPE Hand Grinade Kelly....NOPE Hembree.....NOPE Valazques....yes but at what level of performance Brazzier....have to find out Barnes.....doubt it but maybe Kimbrel....Yes but only to the extent of two three out stints in a row Workman....had one once...not sure now....have to test it Thornburg....needs a shrink We will likely get some pen help from either Erod or Price. We really do not have resilient arms proven by the way Cora has used them this year. He better figure out if Brassier and Barnes can get it done.

I would not use Hembree or Kelly here but here comes Hembree. Does anybody in their wildest dreams think Hembree is coming into the 8th inning of a 1 run game in the post season unless a bench clearing brawl takes out our entire bullpen?

That is one of the downsides of bringing up a kid that does not belong here. Now the counter argument to that is "well he will learn faster getting his tail beat in every day". I actually don't buy that for a kid that was as green as Rafi was when they brought him up. He is getting buried now and shows signs of deciding "f*** it, I have no idea what is coming at me and I can't lay off of any of it. So I think I will just swing and see what happens". Rafi has me hoping for the end of the season or even some sort of minor injury at the end of the season for him. "Sox announce that they have put Devers on the 60 day disabled list for an inflamed hangnail". "But there is only two days left in the season!!!!!!" He could surprise me...but I have my doubts for this year.
