  1. Stunned....Verlander threw the FB at challenge time and missed with it! Great AB by Mitch. Come on Mookie. I like the aggressiveness normally but Verlander can't find the plate!
  2. Really went out of our way to try to get Sale to the post season in mid-season form this year and it still didn't work.
  3. Nunez has been much better going right or coming in than he has been going left or glove side. In fact the same can be said for Devers only he is at this point about hopeless going left. Both have been better at reaction plays going right and have been better coming in. Neither is worth snot to their glove sides. X has bailed both out by covering much more of the territory to his own throwing hand side or this would have looked much uglier all season long.
  4. Nunez probably should have been able to knock it down. But its hard to "knock down" a rocket when you are trying to catch it. At some point Nunez needs to be realistic about what he actually represents as a 3rd baseman. He will never bring back memories of Brooks Robinson or even my next door neighbor growing up, Charlie Robinson.
  5. Take a number 1 weapon away from a pitcher and he is going to struggle no matter what you do because he has to pitch around that hole in his game. Sale can do it. But he has to have something to do it with. Hitting better spots with breaking pitches this inning. If he can keep doing that, he stands a chance of staying in this game at least to 90-100 pitches. We need to get some runs off Verlander who is just toying with us at the moment. Also, not sure what will happen to Sale when he gets back to the top of their order again.
  6. Well that was not really the same play. But it would be nice to have an actual 3rd basemen instead of a journeyman and a kid.
  7. Sale's FB velocity is way down and his command is off on the other stuff and he can't hit either inner or outer edges. So now he is coming right to the middle of the plate. How long do we think he can get away with that?
  8. Gotta' get some runs Sox and get back into this game.
  9. Sale is playing Russian Roulette with what is a darned good hitting team. Maybe its a combination of injury and the cold. But Sale cannot pitch this way successfully against this team.
  10. Sale is just too far off the outer edge at waist high which is where this ump is giving strikes.
  11. Sale is not throwing it close to the outside corner. Sale is not going to get pitches thrown at the 1st base dugout.
  12. Now Verlander has gotten used to the ump giving him that pitch just off the outer edge. So forget cookies at 0-0 counts. That opportunity took all of 1 inning to wash away.
  13. Sale is not going to come out of this well even if he gets out of this inning which is not looking good.
  14. That was destined. Springer was going to get a FB and he knew it.
  15. On top of everything else Sale is overthrowing a bit to get to 93-94
  16. Ridiculous. Sale is pitching himself into messes. He won't last long and 0-0 score won't last either...not this way.
  17. Oh for Christ sake Chris
  18. Sox passive approach hitting 0-0 or early generally has followed them from the ALDS here. Verlander throwing good pitches to hit early in counts.
  19. Brewers Manager Counsell really backed himself into a corner when he used Hader for 3 innings yesterday making him unavailable for today. But that is not what really has him in a pickle. Wade Miley was cruising and had two outs in the 6th when he gave up a base hit pitching a shutout at about 72 pitches (I think). Had gotten 16 Dodgers in a row before that hit and Counsell pulled him regardless of knowing the sequencing in his pen always relies on Hader being available. Brewers pen promptly pukes up 2 runs in the 7th combined between Burnes with Jeffress who finally got the 3rd out. But an inning later Jeffress who probably should not have come put for the 8th, pukes up the lead as well. Jeffress was terrible yesterday and was not any better today. Nobody would have blamed Counsell for staying with Miley because everybody knew Hader could not pitch today. Counsell and his insistence on pulling Miley knowing he did not have Hader a bit exposed today. LA trying to close out game 2 now.
  20. Yea I agree with the Astros being a slight favorite, but only slight. Talking heads picking Astros in 5 should just nut up and tell it like it is. Astros in 5 means they don't think the Sox belong on the same field with the Astros in a 7 game series. They should just own up to how they really feel and say they think its Astros in 5 and a possible sweep at that. Its just a BS pick IMO.
  21. Seen what I think are hysterical baseball talking head predictions for this series, such as Astros in 5. How do you get yourself to that one? Is that one Sox split here and then lose all three games in Houston? I can see Astros in 6 if somebody was going to make an argument for the Astros. But I can't see 5 games happening for either team. If (and I do mean if) a case could be made for one of these teams in 5 games, it would have to be Sox given the first 2 games are here. Honestly I think 5 games is unrealistic for either team. I still think this series goes 7 and well it should.
  22. Most recent I saw was rain to clear out by late in the afternoon. Temps going from low 50's to mid 40's for the game itself.
  23. I must be thinking of the 2-2-1 of division play. I am going to have to think about where else that can be coming from in my memory banks. Possibly a long lost "controversy" about going to 2-2-1-1-1 is stuck in my memory banks.
  24. True but take nothing away from Woodruff. That was one heck of an AB. On those same pitches from Kershaw, JBJ would be walking back to the dugout. JBJ would never have taken that Curveball from the LH pitcher for one thing. He would have been front side open and swinging at air. He would not have hit the HR pitch either.
