  1. These are all pithes way too good to be throwing to Davis. He just missed two pitches that could have just as easily been waaaayyyyy gone just like his first AB.
  2. If a pitcher does not have his rising heater in contemporary MLB, the way hitters are approaching their plate appearances, they have negated everything but the best control and location pitchers in the game. If the pitcher is up in the zone but not rising out of the zone, it hardly matters if he has thrown a FB or a Change. Changeup's are dangerous as heck pitches. Likely to end up taking the pitchers head off coming back the other way off the bat....or....if every hitter in baseball is trying to leave.....its outta' here. Same can be said for FB's up but not rising out of the zone. The pitcher might be able to throw a curve up there and get away with it. Virtually anything else is a HR or an out. A base hit is in more cases than I have ever seen an accident these days.
  3. Ixnay on Price with the best artstay. Still up in the air I think.
  4. Geez was that David HR gone right off the bat. JBJ could have just as well saved himself the trouble. Would have had to hit a seagull to stay in the park.
  5. Well, Cora has gone easy on the Rotation during ST. Probably had to plan on first starts not going swimmingly. Price to the rescue! Maybe...maybe not. We will just have to see what they look like 2nd and 3rd time through the rotation. I am guessing from the 1st starts that the 2nd are not going to be much to write home about either. Looking forward to their 3rd time through.
  6. Solid AB there Vaz
  7. Make up call to Swi or this ump is blind as a bat too
  8. I would agree with that. Not a single one of them has had any idea where the ball was going.
  9. Have we actually driven a Mariner batter off the plate on purpose in this series yet? I know a couple pitches drifted inside when Vaz was holding the target about a mile away from where the pitch ended up thrown. But I don't remember an instance this series where we purposefully moved a batter's feet. Had to listen to radio for the first few innings today. Didn't sound like Rick was moving batter's feet either.
  10. Good catch Slash..... which the Mariner 3rd baseman appeared incapable of making.
  11. As much flak as he takes from us fans it is almost stunning how much this rotation depends on Porcello.
  12. Not sure why X didn't at least try to pooch that into RF down 0-2 in the count. I know he is confident he can work his way back into any count. But a pooch to RF there ties the game and you have to make some concessions to being that far down in the count.
  13. And now the M's have to face X who is an assassin.
  14. i would rather Mookie and find a better way to spare Mookie over the long season if that is where Cora is going with this. Beni is not IMO a leadoff hitter. Not now...maybe not ever. Holt (parish the thought) is a more natural lead off than Beni. Though I would not put Holt there steadily either. The only periods in Mookie's career when it made sense to move Mookie out of leadoff were when the Sox were struggling for power and their best RBI guy was batting from the 1 hole. That is no longer the case. Move Mookie back to leadoff and find a way to spare him maybe 40 of the PA dif between the 1 and 2 Holes. If not that then Pull Mookie out of RF against the weaker teams (of which there are legions) more times....maybe have him DH more to spare him some wear over the long season.
  15. Why does Thornburg always look like the most detached disinterested ML pitcher on the mound I have seen in a long long time.
  16. I honestly do not like Beni to Mookie v Mookie to Beni. I simply do not think Beni is disciplined enough as a hitter to lead off. He may be someday. But he isn't now. Beni gets that front leg too far out in front, gets into too deep a stretch front to back, gets his hands outside the baseball and turns into popup city even when he makes contact. The MVP is not a large physical frame kind of guy and I suspect Cora is trying to spare him some use over the long season. He has got to cover acres in Fenway RF and the leadoff hitter must get at least 80 more PA's than the guy batting from the 2 hole.
  17. Truth is we did this a good deal last year as well, especially late in the season. We came back a good deal against opponent pens. Thats in part why i was basically left on the edge of my seat all season long. So I don't see much of a dif frankly to this point other than that the Starters are struggling a bit more than they did early last year.
  18. Great example tonight of how important Cora and the coaching staff is to the success of this team.
  19. Well the M's are certainly not missing mistake pitches. There has been plenty of those in the first 10 innings of the new season. That said, I am starting to have misgivings about stealing signs. They seem to know what is coming for one thing.
  20. Be careful what you ask for. If he is not talkin' then Mendoza or Arod are.
  21. I am not sure there is a worse booth combination in baseball, national or local.
  22. No pitcher can be that wild in the strike zone like that. He was wild out of the strike zone and only corrected far enough to be wild in the strike zone. The first earned him a bunch of 3-2 counts and I think one walk. The 2nd got him bombs. It does look like Sale is coming onto the years when he has to mix more pitches and that can really throw a guy off especially early in a season. Sale is surely used to just going FB/FB/Slider, sit down hitter.
  23. Well at the moment Sale is not throwing a single pitch well. I don't know that it means anything. Just pointing it out ....well....to point it out.
  24. Odd way to get out of that inning also. I am not sure Sale would have pitched his way out of that.
  25. Oh well, that is what happens when you get three pitches to hit and miss them all.
