If a pitcher does not have his rising heater in contemporary MLB, the way hitters are approaching their plate appearances, they have negated everything but the best control and location pitchers in the game. If the pitcher is up in the zone but not rising out of the zone, it hardly matters if he has thrown a FB or a Change. Changeup's are dangerous as heck pitches. Likely to end up taking the pitchers head off coming back the other way off the bat....or....if every hitter in baseball is trying to leave.....its outta' here. Same can be said for FB's up but not rising out of the zone.
The pitcher might be able to throw a curve up there and get away with it. Virtually anything else is a HR or an out. A base hit is in more cases than I have ever seen an accident these days.
