  1. David didn't actually throw that with anything on it. That was more of a set up pitch than an out pitch. It turned into an out pitch...an "outta' here" pitch.
  2. Why are you throwing that pitch in that situation David? McCann spit on it.
  3. Gee I don't remember wanting to trade him. I remember calling him the most consistent starter we have and essentially the backbone of this rotation and repeating it right during his period of sucking ass while they were all sucking ass. The point is that there is really nothing we could have learned nor should have learned from Rick's recent start against the A's, not that he is some glorified second coming nor that Sandy is either. What we learned AND confirmed in last night's game is that the A's are horribly limited in their lineup configurations v RH pitching at the moment and will likely continue to be until Olsen comes back and may still be until the other LH bat they are missing comes back. All we really learned is how easy it is to dominate their RH hitting lineup with RH pithing of ANY MERIT WHATSOEVER especially on the road.
  4. You can't possibly be serious. Even suggesting that "it might" is pretty preposterous given the long and storied history of pitching in baseball. Walter Johnson himself has 110 9 inning shutouts.
  5. Did we not notice that the very next night a cadre of Sox RH relief pitchers with Vaz catching did precisely the same job, dominating that lineup, on the road in our park that Rick had done the previous night with Sandy catching? Perhaps they are gods. Perhaps they are the best RH relief pitchers in baseball or more likely, that A's lineup did not stand a chance against even passible never mind decent RH pitching. Val gave up a run...and then NOTHING through the rest of the RH relief pitchers till Thorny in the 9th who does not count. He is flat awful. He does not even meet the "passable" standard.
  6. So just for the record, a whole fleet of Red Sox RH relief pitchers totally controlled this heavily RH A's lineup just as Rick did ...all the way up to the awful Thorny who should just not count. Everything in context gentlemen...everything in context.
  7. If I am not mistaken, Thorny just kicked his ERA up to double digits
  8. That is what you get for listening to OB
  9. CWS tomorrow? Are there just no days off for ML players this year or do all of ours come in the 2nd half. This seems sort of ridiculous to me.
  10. When are we going to stop with this with Thorny. How many 6 run late inning games do we have to give him anyway?
  11. And how many bombs did Rafi had when nobody up here knew him from a hole in the wall? I am OK with Chavis staying....just not prepared to see him play tons of middle infield up here as I am not even convinced he is eventually a 2nd baseman as a full time major leaguer. I might feel a bit more comfortable without the PED history but even then learning middle infield on a team that is supposedly contending for the post season is not a great idea especially for a player that does not seem to have much in the way of quicks around middle infield or footwork around 2nd base. His range is highly suspect from what I have seen.
  12. Geez Chapman made that look like he was making that play from a hammock.....unreal
  13. You can get wiped out if you turn right into the runner which is about what Chavis did the other day when he launched the ball into the loge seats. Anybody who thinks these rules protect players needs to think again. They just allow goofy footers a stay of execution......sometimes. Play Chavis at first. Since when is Pearce not expendable. Christ, some time on the bench would do Pearce some good. They can bring a Sports Phycology Therapist right to the bench. "Look at the spinning pocket watch Steve. You ARE a hitter.....You ARE a hitter"
  14. I really don't care what the Brewers do...at least Shaw had significant ML experience. Chavis has neither ML nor 2nd base experience that is worth a darn up here. If Chavis gets wiped out at 2nd base, I am going to "I told you so" this board right into the ground. I am already anticipating some ugly play there. Heck we have already seen some ugly play there.
  15. They didn't win it now did they!
  16. So how much is he going to have to hit to make up for not knowing what in the world he is doing at 2nd. Who covers for him since he clearly does not have the quickness for the position and X already has his hands full. Moreland's worst plays at 1st are trying to move over into the hole. So now what? Chavis at 2nd is Nunez with even less range if that can be believed. How happy are we going to be about Chavis at 2nd when he turns right into a runner in the middle of a DP and gets wiped out and sent to the IL to become yet another Red Sox player played out of position and sent to his doom. If they want to keep him here I would play him at 1st where play around the base is at least not coming at you from every direction. We give up Pierce....big deal. Its only money in his case.
  17. Chavis isn't at 2nd either. Put him at 1st and put Pierce and his $5M or whatever on ice. At least Chavis would not be right in the middle of the infield. X has enough of a workload coaching Rafi every day. Now you are going to stick him between Chavis and Rafi!!!!
  18. Through to what? He is not a 2nd baseman and trying to hide somebody in your middle infield is pretty preposterous. If they really want him at 2nd they need to send him down and let him learn. Give me a healthy Holt over Chavis every day and twice on Sunday.
  19. I am now as worried about Holt as anybody else. Shoulder Impingement is fairly nebulous. But anything shoulder for a ballplayer is not encouraging news.
  20. Funny you mentioned that. I just told Slash I had muted the audio....i can't take it either.
  21. I've got the sound off...just watching the video.
  22. Wondered if that came off the bag that way or hit something else. Sort of an odd bounce off the bag though I can't really call these things "bags" any longer. Truly hate the contemporary base. Whoever sold MLB that idea should be shot.
  23. Val needs to make better pitches. Ha has thigh high to the belt pretty well zeroed in and that is not a good place to leave the ball. His ball is not moving very much either.
  24. The A's need at least Olson back as they are not going to get their rotation back anytime soon. At least if they had Olson they would have some flexibility in their lineup. As it is now, they are outgunned by decent RH pitching. Olson is not much to look at but where the A's are right now is pretty ridiculous.
