  1. We better win today, because if not, I'll actually have to root for the Yankees the next few days, which would be absolutely disgusting. This game on paper looks awful, but there's a reason why the games are actually played, so go Red Sox!
  2. This has gotta be it for him. He's 45 years old and on the decline. If he does leave, he has nothing to be ashamed of, but I really hope both him and the team come to their senses and move on.
  3. Congratulations to Tim Wakefield. I'm glad he finally got it and I hope the team honors him properly, he deserves it for all the years he's given us.
  4. Sooooooo.......now we get wait for Tim Wakefield's 193rd win in a Red Sox uniform. Right? Right? Hey guys, put those knives down!
  5. Not to mention Lars Anderson. I should look up his minor league stats this year, I remember he was supposed to be our 1B of the future, but A-Gon has made him obsolete I presume. This team REALLY needed a game like this.
  6. Tampa Bay loses!!! Looking like a good night, guys.
  7. I'm actually watching the Baltimore/Tampa game, I live in Delaware so I'm not getting the Sox game, just following online. I feel good with Aceves in there and a 6 run lead. We can hopefully end this Wakefield debacle once and for all.
  8. Weiters 2 run bomb!!! 4 - 2 Baltimore Bot 8
  9. "I'm glad we play the Rays four times coming up (Sept. 15-18 at Fenway)," Epstein said. "If we can't right the ship against these guys, if we can't do what we need to do, we probably don't deserve to get into the postseason." That about sums it up right there. You got to tip your hat to Tampa Bay, though, they have one hell of a pitching staff. I remember pre-2008 they were a walk in the park as long as Scott Kazmir wasn't pitching. These days, it feels like we're always facing a Kazmir. I'm sure our numbers against Tampa Bay look dreadful these past few season, and I would hate to see our stat against them with RISP. Tampa Bay has a load of talent, but we need to find a way to finally hit these guys and also have Francona for once out manage Maddon in a close game, preferably before the 16th ininng! If we can't finally figure these guys out, Theo's right, we don't deserve to be in the post season.
  10. I have nothing personal against John Lackey and I truly wish him and his wife the best. I also don't blame him or any other player for their contract, who wouldn't take the deals these guys are getting? I also remember people ripping Jason Bay and Dustin Pedroia for taking time off for the birth of their children, and I thought that was ridiculous. Of course players should be allowed to put their families above the team, after all, they get paid so they can feed their families in the first place. Still, no matter the circumstance, I think Lackey needs to be dealt with. If the issues are physical, let him recover. If his wife's cancer truly is hurting his performance the way it is, then he needs time off, and I won't hold that against him. If a move to the bullpen is best, then move him to the bullpen. All I know is Lackey starting every 5 days is hurting this team, and going into next year, this needs to be dealt with in a way that works for both the team and player.
  11. Perhaps if this team can learn to speed up their games they wouldn't be so exhausted down the stretch. These regular 3.5 and 4 hour games surely have to take their toll. I'm just a spectator and they tire me out, I can't imagine what it does to the players.
  12. s***, I'll even take Oil Can Boyd's number at this point.
  13. First off, Bard does not suck. He had what, a 27 inning scoreless streak this year? He throws a 98 MPH fastball, has a nasty slider, and leads the league in holds. Yes he has 7 losses, but so did Papelbon last year, and look at the season Paps is currently having. Bard's problem is he's overworked, period. Francona overworks the guy. A perfect example is that game in KC a few weeks back. He bails Lester out of the 7th, we score some runs and I believe we have a 5 run lead, and he throws Bard out for the 8th to pitch a second inning. Why? The other problem is our starters never make it to the 8th. I'd love to have a Felix Hernandez to take care of that.
  14. Bard needs to be shut down. The lack of starting pitching going deep has overworked every bullpen arm not named Papelbon.
  15. Gotta tip your cap to Papelbon, we have not lost a single game this year because of him. He had one blown save on cheap bloop single that scored an inherited runner and he blew a four run lead against Oakland. His two mishaps, and we won both games. He's been perfect outside of that.
  16. Tampa Bay really needs a new stadium, that place is a joke.
  17. Well, Bard's been worked like a dog this year, as has Aceves, as has Albers, so I don't blame either of them for their recent struggles. If we had another starter who could go deep into games, our bullpen would be in better shape.
  18. Just don't make this go into the 16th again. I'd like to live long enough to see my grandchildren before having a heart attack.
  19. Ortiz double play I take it? At least Aceves sparkling career record gets spared...unlike Wakefield's. Going to Paps I see. If, we get a lead, you think Bard's saving it?
  20. I wish I could watch this. I live in the Philly sports market so I have to watch the Yankee game on MLB Network instead. By the way, Russell Martin's out the game with an injury and Posada's catching. You read that right.
  21. I'm following this on my computer and not getting updates.....but things sound good now.
  22. You guys remember the good old days when a Tampa Bay bullpen was guaranteed to give up at least 6 runs an inning? Forgive my nostalgia.
