  1. This is how I see it. He is still very young and growing. I think he will evolve into a fantastic player. I don't agree with giving up on a player or going to someone else after one year. Devers has made some great defensive plays for us (Unfortunately he has made some bad ones too) and he can hit the ball extremely well. With the off season and spring training hopefully we see a more improved Devers this season though.
  2. Agreed with this. Dude has so much potential but can't stay healthy and now with the suspension. Time to move away from him. Not much good a player does for you when he only plays a few games a season (or in his case not even)
  3. Seeing Pedroia hitting again brings a smile to my face!
  4. Whatever let them question it. It will be a question mark till the season starts. We have enough firepower and good starting rotation to carry this team. The pen makes me slightly nervous but we still have good enough players to compete.
  5. He's a very patient player. takes after the Houston Astros gameplan. Only swing at an absolute picture perfect pitch. picture perfect pitch.... wow.... say that 3 times fast.
  6. Not yet, but maybe in the future..... hmmmm.
  7. Ya it’s too hard to tell how he or a player will do after one season. He can hit the ball that’s for damn sure! I think he has a lot of potential.
  8. That's the problem with Kimbrel...... When he is on.... he's very good (much like he was in the World Series) but when he is off.... it's ugly like he was in the Yankees and Astros series. It happens to all pitchers. I know I can be hard on him but it does happen to the best. With that said I still think Kimbrel's agent is asking too much for him but meh.
  9. Agreed completely with this. There are brilliant men out there that have never played the game, but can build a winning team like you wouldn’t believe. Sure it helps if you player the game, but that doesn’t mean you will be or won’t be a good manager.
  10. Then this season he will be even better.
  11. Thanks for the stats! Though regular season is important I agree. Playoffs is a huge concern. If you're team qualifies for the playoffs you need to have nearly 100% trust in your closer. You are battling the best of the best teams, and generally the games you play in the playoffs will for the most part be close or come down to a run or 2. I honestly can't say I trusted Kimbrel what so ever come World Series after his performance against the Yanks and Astros. I know maybe I am being a little hard on the guy, but I remember this entire board acting the same way every time he was called out to play in the playoffs. My heart still hurts. He was just lucky enough that the Sox were so good we overcame his bad play that nearly cost us some games.
  12. Good point!
  13. Been curious about Wright for a while. Even if healthy, he has been out a long time. I wonder if he will come back to his old self or will he be like Pomz and completely s*** the bed from rust. Hopefully that's not the case though.
  14. The playoffs is one thing that will hurt Kimbrel for getting the money he wants. Put up some damn good numbers in regular season, but many organizations and coaches will see his failure in the playoffs and won't want to risk giving him that kind of money.... Then again.... Stranger things have happened. Teams really want a reliable closer I guess.
  15. Getting pumped!!!!!! Season is upon us!
  16. The pitchers I follow (specifically the Red Sox) I don't look too close at the ERA..... Of course that is pretty much all I look at when it comes to other pitchers on other teams as I don't follow them that close. But certainly ERA isn't everything. Porcello was pretty damn good for us this season but looking strictly at his ERA you wouldn't think he was anything more than average at best. There were a few pitchers that had better ERA's than he did when he won the Cy Young award in 2016.
  17. Agreed. With that said. I still hope Poms finds success down the road.
  18. If the price is right absolutely sign him. But he was scary in the playoffs. Maybe to some, that is too small a sample size. But if our team wasn’t as good as it was he would have cost us some games in the playoffs. With that said. Every pitcher has some bad stretches so I’m not against signing him back....... if the price is right. Call me crazy whatever. But I think he can be replaced.
  19. They like giving second chances..... Maybe he will play with a chip on his shoulder unno...
  20. Ya, I am not sure what got into him in the playoffs.... But it seems he was off in the early series against the Yankees, and then tried to change his mechanics or something.... Whatever it was..... it was ugly. Still at the end of the day with his regular season stats, and being on a team winning the World Series it doesn't surprise me what he wants in his contract and a good chance he will likely get it. On paper he looks irreplaceable but losing him in all honesty I don't think will break this team.
  21. I agree. I’m not saying I wouldn’t want to have him back. If the price is right I’m all for it. Unfortunately it just doesn’t look that way. And to be fair Kimbrel was pretty damn good in the World Series.... just s*** the bed against the Yanks and Astros.
  22. Interesting..... didn’t realize that. They didn’t even have a closer last year I don’t think?
  23. Interesting. I could see it..... The Cubs never did rebound and find someone after Wade Davis went to the Rockies. Probably a big reason the Cubs didn't do as good this season (though they were still a playoff caliber team)
  24. Thanks! I could see Minnesota snatching Kimbrel..... Also found it interesting that they seem to think the Sox are in the most need of Kimbrel. Though he got us a lot of saves, nothing will ever change my mind that we didn't need him in the playoffs. We win that World Series with or without him. If the price is right keeping Kimbrel doesn't bother me, but if he goes to a team like Minnesota I'm not too worried about filling the role. I have said before and I will say again, this team is good enough to stay competitive and win games while we figure out a closing role for someone. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.
