Well said Jung. At the end of the day, this is simply not the same team from last year.... Not even close. The pitching stinks to high heaven, the offense (granted we are number 1 in the league) only scores runs in chunks. It seems the offense goes absolutely nuts for one series like they did against the Yankees, but then goes relatively quiet the next series.... And don't get me wrong I am not saying this is the on the offense because it's not. If we didn't have the bats that we do we wouldn't even be close to a playoff spot right now.
At the end of the day the pitching just isn't good enough. O'Brien summed it up nicely yesterday when he said "This bullpen wasn't meant to save us if the starting rotation wasn't good" And that is so very true. We are paying a lot of money to Sale, Price and Porcello. They should be going at least 6 innings every game and a lot of the time 7 innings. Price I think has only gone over 6 innings like once or twice this year (maybe it's more, don't care to look) Sale and Porcello are no better. Asking this bullpen to go 3 innings or a lot of the time 4 innings every game is asking a hell of a lot from these guys. It all starts with our starting rotation..... And they have not been good and that is why we are not currently in a playoff spot right now. When this rotation starts consistently going 6/7 innings and giving up 3 runs or less we will win a hell of a lot more games. Until then, if things don't change we are simply not a very good team.
