  1. Masterson has the same ERA as Buchholz. If only he were still on the Red Sox. It would be good if the Sox won, because I am leaving for Maine tomorrow without access to TV's and such. Want to leave on a high note until I come back on Sunday.
  2. You take Pittsburgh as an example. Not the best choice. They lean towards football and hockey because the Pirates have sucked for 20 years. Not rocket science. Take LA: Plenty of teams to choose from, but they are a basketball town until Kobe retires or the Dodgers or Angels win more than 2 World Series combined. Another example: Washington DC: Hockey and college basketball town until the Nationals won over 90 games last year. Now that they are set to be contenders for the next 10 years, the fan base has switched passions.
  3. Hanrahan?!?! No. He's not as good as first thought. Bailey only got the win because he pitched in the 9th. He also blew a save. The best 8-9 combination has to be Darren O'Day and Jim Johnson of the Orioles only because the Yankees don't really have a setup man.
  4. That's the quickest recovery from Tommy John that I've ever seen.
  5. BTR has some great mojo so far!!! Great game tonight. Wasn't about the grind, just the result. The whole point was to distract the city of Boston and try to win, and they did just that. Congratulations.
  6. They lose a lot of players with their low budget though. Andrew Bailey, Stephen Drew, Jonny Gomes, etc...
  7. Oakland.
  8. Bailey deserves an opportunity to close for a few weeks in meaningful games after being out so long last year. Hanrahan is probably on the DL because he sucks. Kind of like the times Dice K was on the DL for a "shoulder" problem.
  9. Isn't Crawford still on the DL?
  10. Based on the fact that one of their usernames is Gillian, I think they aren't all "gents.":dunno:
  11. Thank god for the walk off because it made everyone in Boston happy just before the explosions. This is one of those moments where people turn to sports for comfort, like Piazza's HR after 9/11. I think the Guardians will try hard but Francona might let them win at least the first game. When they return home on Friday, I hope for another walk off or come from behind win to rejuvenate the city of Boston.
  12. I couldn't see it well from where I was. The replay on the videoboard looked like he got in there.
  13. Just getting home from the game now. Few things: 1. Buchholz looked a lot better in person than on TV. I watched some highlights on the way home, and he looked like he left a lot of pitches over the plate. 2. The buzz in the crowd increased after every inning when Buchholz was still going with his no-hit bid. I was hoping and hoping for a no-no, because I believe that I said that I expected a no hitter in yesterday's game thread. 3. Drew can't hit. 4. Napoli's double was much closer to a grand slam than it appeared on TV. Once again, I watched the highlights on the way home (I wasn't driving). 5. The force out at the plate in the third inning was clearly a blown call. 6. My seats were in the perfect position down the third base line. 10 rows from the field, behind the Rays dugout. We were protected from the wind, so it felt a lot warmer than it really was. 7. BTR has some really good mojo and I thank him for snapping the Sox 3 game losing streak when I go to games. 8. I was going to bring a "Hi Talksox" sign like many of you suggested, but I was in a rush when I went out the door this morning. If I did, I might have needed a TBS or NESN acronym to get on TV.
  14. I'm eating lunch at Game On! today, the sports bar located right next to the park. I recommend it for anyone who's going to a game.
  15. I don't think the people I'm going with will approve of this sign.
  16. True enough. :dunno: I'll be wearing a coat like everyone else.
  17. Well, I have BTR's mojo at the game tomorrow. That better be a good thing. The last 3 games I've gone to have been losses.
  18. Not saying you watch them. My point was the Sox game was on Fox and you still couldn't watch it. Good thing is, tomorrows game is on TBS. Look for me behind the Rays dugout.
  19. I expect a no-no.
  20. Lester was great. 7 IP, 1 ER, not sure on the K's Hanrahan 0 IP, 2 BB, replaced by Uehara in the 9th who got all three outs.
  21. Feel bad for ya. FOX in your area had the Cubs game. Ouch.
  22. Not sure if that was sarcasm...
  23. I have a feeling that this was the better game out of today and tomorrow. Thing is, I'll be there tomorrow.
