  1. Here is my guess... Victorino, rf (B ) Ellsbury, cf (L) Pedroia, 2b ® Ortiz, dh (L) Napoli, 1b ® Kalish/Gomes, lf (L/R) Saltamalacchia/Ross, c (B/R) Middlebrooks, 3b ® Drew, ss ®
  2. The Sox need a left handed bat that can play left field and first base to complement Gomes and Napoli, but this guy is absolutely not the guy. He is a rare lefty bat who can't hit righties. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=carpmi01&year=Career&t=b
  3. Well, I am betting the Sox prefer to keep Brentz in the outfield and at Pawtucket for one more year. As a former pitcher, I bet his arm plays too well in the outfield.
  4. Right, that makes a lot of sense. Move your future right fielder to first base for one year. Then what?
  5. Brentz has not shown he can play first base and has not shown he is ready to play at the major league level. Btw, who plays right field in 2014 if Brentz moves to first?
  6. You said, "Millar was exclusively an outfielder with Florida for two seasons," which was not true. This has no validity as to Brentz's ability to play first base. He has never played the position, and You can look that up. I can live with Mauro Gomez.
  7. You are right. Brentz is not yet ready for the big leagues, and he has not played a single inning at first base in his professional career.
  8. Hahaha! I was not trying to tin can you, Fred. And I did check my facts...did you? He was not exclusively an outfielder in 2001 and 2002. He was a part time player who played 29 games at first and third in those years. You can look it up. Exclusively means not allowing something else. You can look that up also. And you can look it up, Millar played 582 minor league minor games in the infield but only 30 games in left field only in nine minor league seasons...an average of three games per season. Brentz has played zero games in the infield. He also plays right field which tells me he has a decent arm. I am not in favor of moving Brentz to first. The Red Sox will need a right fielder next year when Ellsbury bolts and Victorino moves to center field. Brentz to first is not the best idea in my opinion.
  9. No one is arguing that. He was almost exclusively an infielder in the minors and his first two years in the major leagues. He did not learn to play the infield in Boston. I used to watch Millar at third and first base with the Portland Sea Dogs and knew better. But, I will admit I was a little too harsh with Fred. He was just agreeing with the possible move of Brentz to first.
  10. Please be fair in your posts and check your facts, Fred. Kevin Millar played only 30 minor league games in the outfield. He played 683 minor league games as an infielder. It is one thing to be opinionated, but it is another thing to be completely wrong and expressing it as a fact.
  11. I have considered posting this idea, but it just seems a little too risky considering Papi's age and lack of playing time in recent years. I am on board with a Garrett Jones/Mauro Gomez platoon, though.
  12. Thanks for the link! I booked marked it as well.
  13. Well, a guy comes up as a middle infielder. He bulks up considerably and already has one suspension. He is can be a concern.
  14. This is just a question...or a concern. Morse has bulked up considerably since his rookie season. MLB will be testing for HGH this season. Morse already has one suspension for PEDs. How can the Red Sox be certain he is clean? He seems like a candidate for suspicion and doubt.
  15. Right, and the Mariners can not possibly contend this year. They will absolutely not want one year of Ellsbury.
  16. I don't think the Sox are trading Ellsbury right now. They might change their mind at the trade deadline. I do know for certain they will not acquire Upton for one year of Ellsbury.
  17. Morse missed the start of last season with a torn lat muscle. The wrist injury was towards the end of this past season, and he has not had surgery on it.
  18. Well, maybe one year is a negotiating ploy. He wants three. Sox offer one. They compromise at two.
  19. Right. Unless they can get him for non-prospects, I'd rather the Sox explore other options.
  20. Well, this does not sound quite as promising.
  21. "The Red Sox and Napoli’s lead agent, Brian Grieper, continue to try and find some middle ground with which both sides can be satisfied. This means salary, length and language to protect the club all have to be worked out, a process that is not as simple as both sides would have liked." This gives me hope. Neither side has a truly satifactory backup plan, so I believe it will happen. The whole process is taking some time because of the difficulty of the process. It might fall through, but I don't see a scenario where someone steps in and lures Napoli away.
  22. This was Jim Bowden's take on Napoli in his most recent ESPN Insider column.
  23. This should not surprise anyone: http://www.tmz.com/2013/01/11/milton-bradley-baseball-charged-spousal-battery/
  24. Whatever. I will always admit when I am wrong without trying to justify my incorrect statements. After all, this is just a baseball forum among friends.
