I think the most correct thing to say is that it's a muddy argument that isn't an easy thing to completely prove from either side. At least in my opinion.
I consider myself to be very SABR minded but Ive never quite been able to completely disavow the idea of clutch hitting. I think its just human nature. We've all been in spots in life where we feel extra pressure and I'm not willing to completely disagree with the notion that some guys are better suited in those spots than others.
I could just be stuck in old school nostalgia though and be completely wrong too.
I guess it would be not making an out. Also, I never thought of clutch as an ability to raise your game but as an ability for it not to dip in big moments. Which I suppose initiates the argument as to whether choking exists.
My point exactly . I've done some reading and it is an indeed a very muddied conversation. I guess the simplest definition would be coming through in a big situation and someone being clutch is a person who possesses it as an ability or at least gives off that appearance.
He has a great arm, no arguing that, but the numbers don't lie. It's like Jeter, he may look pretty in the field but he's actually not very good with the glove.
