  1. Lester fighting himself but ump is squeezing too
  2. Ump not giving Lester that outside corner.
  3. no way. mark reynolds, i mean kevin youkilis struck out.
  4. Wow. What a f***ing turn of events.
  5. Well. That didn't take long for Ells to extend that streak. Lets go Gonzo!!!
  6. I understand that. Francona said all year that their line up is best with Crawford in the top. He said earlier that Crawford will find his way to the top of the order "when it makes sense". So obviously, ultimately Francona wants Crawford in the top of the order ideally. So, what the hell has to happen for Crawford to hit in the top? Plain and simple, Francona has double standards. If Drew was hitting .360 in the 8 slot, and Craw was hitting .120 in the 6 slot, or if Pedroia was hitting .360 in the 7th or 8th slot after struggling, and Crawford was hitting .135 in the 2 slot, you don't think Francona would make a move?? Especially when our offense has averaged 3.33 runs per game over the past 6 games?? And none of those games involved Felix, Haren, or Weaver. I'm not implying that Francona should make a temporary move. He needs to make a permanent move. If he plans on putting Crawford in the top of the order, do it already.
  7. Well. It's official. No matter how bad Pedroia (.182) and Drew (.120) hit in May, and no matter how well Crawford (.361) hits in May, Crawford is always going to be the most overpaid 8 hole hitter in baseball. God Francona can be such a complete moron sometimes.
  8. Offspeed down and away, cutters in. Done and done.
  9. Wow. Really?? Come on man. Be realistic. You're using Cy Young as an example of the workload that pitchers should use in the modern era? 1. He debuted over 120 years ago. 2. He had a career 3.83 K/9. He threw exclusively to contact. 3. Major League Baseball named the award for the best pitcher in each league after him. And you're using him as a benchmark. The game is entirely different right now than it was back then. You can't even compare the two. In 1901, the entire Red Sox team hit 37 HR. Combined. 37 combined HR. You can't compare the two.
  10. First off, you are the one inferring. I am the one implying. Second off, I never said that leaving Beckett out there too long was the cause of him being ineffective at any point this season. I am saying that each pitcher is conditioned for a set amount of innings. If it's around 240-250, you throw them 200-210 during the regular season so that you have 30-40 innings of bullets left in the tank for the post season. Third, I don't need scientific proof that overuse of a pitcher will result in depreciated value and stats. It's not just a pitchers arm that is in use. It's his legs, his back, his arm, and his core. I don't want my pitcher going into a Game 7 start with legs like jello because he threw 225 innings during the regular season. Finally - If injuries didn't stem from overuse, then why don't we throw Lester out there every 3rd game on short rest and pump him up to 400 IP? Because we don't want him to get hurt! It's the exact same thing. Save your bullets.
  11. Relievers are definitely more valuable in this era than in prior eras, but the fact remains that guys like Beckett condition to try to go around 6-7 IP and throw 100-110 pitches. That's averaging anywhere from 14 to 18 pitches per inning, which is about right. You also have to realize that this is the post-steroid era (sort of), and because of the steroid era, pitchers were throwing less innings because hitters had an edge, requiring a much bigger burden to be put on the bullpen. Now that the added emphasis has been placed on the bullpen, why wouldn't you try to save the bullets from your SP and get them through 6-7 IP and hand it over to Aceves or Bard then Papelbon? You have to think, we've got Beckett and Lackey through 2014, not just for 2011. And it's not just a $15mm investment. It's a $60-$80mm investment. We don't want to throw them 240-250 IP in 2011 and 2012 and then have two dead arm #4 and #5 starters for 2 years at $30mm per year.
  12. I hope you're right, but I must say, every single hit he has this year is going to surprise me.
  13. They have not scored more than 9 runs this year. Maybe tonight we'll break that streak. The ball flies at Rogers.
  14. That's a winning % of .000.
  15. Yeah, I mean 100-110 is about what you want to see from your starters in their first 8-10 starts of the year. When it's June or July, you can push them to 110-115, but you want to save some bullets for August and September games. Plus, Aceves and Papelbon should be able to come in and shut the door. A BS balk call and a broken bat single is what killed us. It's not like Beckett came out after 7 IP and 93 pitches with a 3-0 lead that our bullpen blew. Span hit a broken bat dribbler to Youk, got a balk call, and Kubel hit a broken bat blooper over Pedey's head. Not a single hard hit ball, so I don't second guess Francona there. Plus, looking forward, Beckett is going up against the Yankees on Sunday. You know they're going to battle and drive his pitch count up. I'd rather him throw 7 IP and 120 pitches there than 8 or 9 IP and 120-125 against the Twins.
  16. Yeah I can't believe it's May 9th and we haven't touched .500 all season. Anyway, Lester going tonight. Couldn't ask for a better pitcher to get us over this hump. It's going to be very interesting to see, if we touch .500 today, if it gives us a psychological boost. Wouldn't surprise me if we got to .500 to start playing insane baseball. The bad news? We have never seen Kyle Drabek. Hopefully we can overcome this "first time seeing a pitcher" curse.
  17. Hey man. Any chance I can use your username and PW?
