  1. Regarding Swihart, Theo said that they would have drafted him regardless of his position just purely based on his offensive talents. The fact that he's a catcher made him that much more valuable to them. Hopefully he pans out. I was looking at some of our old drafts - it's amazing how hit-or-miss these drafts are. You look at our 2005 draft and we loaded up with Lowrie, Ellsbury, Buchholz all making significant impacts on the team. Then you look at the 2006 draft, and we had 4 picks in the first/supp rounds, and we get Jason Place (released), Daniel Bard, Kris Johnson (released), and Caleb Clay (8.44 ERA in Portland). I am really excited about our draft this year. I think Henry Owens is going to be one of those guys who doesn't really pan out, and I anticipate Jackie Bradley being a bit logjammed in the OF. Having said that, hopefully Ranaudo and Barnes can be here in 3-4 years when Beckett and Lackey leave, and when Lester and Buch are both still in their late 20's/early 30's. That would be a really stout big 4 if they pan out as expected.
  2. At least we had 4 picks in the top 40, and the players we got are all solid players, hopefully their talents can translate. Hopefully Owens can generate a bit more velocity, although from what I understand, scouts don't anticipate that. The Yankees didn't even have a pick tonight I don't think.
  3. Mother f***er. Why not gamble with Josh Bell?!?
  4. Bell falls to us. Philly won't take him. Sox will gamble on him though. If this happens, what a fantastic 4 picks.
  5. Henry Owens - You got your wish Ital
  6. Who is Yacob Anderson?
  7. The Nats are going to be an outrageous team in a few years if half of their picks pan out.
  8. Grayson Garvin is another big LHP that I would like to see us take. 6'6, 220 lb. 2.37 ERA for Vandy this year.
  9. They did, I'm just saying in stature. Lincecum = 5'11, 165. Sonny Gray = 5'11, 180
  10. True, and sure he doesn't necessarily get the downward plane, but the guy has a 2.01 ERA in the SEC, obviously that's nothing compared to the MLB or even the minors, but hell there have been a lot of small-framed pitchers who have torn up the MLB. Pedro, Lincecum were both about Gray's size.
  11. If Josh Bell falls to us at 36 and we don't take him, I'm going to flip
  12. I don't know why people don't project Sonny Gray as a SP. Putting him in the bullpen is a horrible idea. He's going to be elite.
  13. Speaking of high power OF, Brandon Jacobs is one of the most under-discussed outfielders in our farm system I think. He and Brentz are killing it in the farm right now, although Brentz just got hurt and is out til middle of the month.
  14. True, and I guess the catcher market is going to develop in the late 20's and early 30's, so he may not have been around at 36. I can see the Jays taking Josh Bell in 5 picks, Rogers Group doesn't shy away from spending money in the draft.
  15. I'm so f***ing disappointed that Sonny Gray went 18. Just don't go RIGHT BEFORE the Sox pick. If you're going to go before the Sox, go in the top 10 so I don't get my hopes up. What a f***ing let down. And Swihart at 26?? Take a gamble and freaking take Josh Bell. Swihart wasn't even the best catcher on the board. You can grab him in the 30s.
  16. Wow. Back to back teams drafting SS with young, talented SS on the MLB team right now
  17. Exactly. Heard that Archie Bradley seeking $20mm. That's laughable.
  18. Baseball is so strange in that teams draft positions that they have great talent at already (i.e. the Tribe just drafting Lindor with Asdrubal playing now). You don't see that in football, at least not in the 1st round.
  19. Yeah Arizona just bent over this draft.
  20. I hope to God that Sonny Gray from Vandy drops to us at 19. He's got absolutely filthy stuff. I've seen him throw over at Vandy a couple times, dude is nasty. 2.01 ERA in the SEC.
  21. What's ridiculous is that, as of the last update I saw, Michael Young was the #1 DH. Hahaha.
  22. Adrian Gonzalez - .339/.383/.567/.950, 12 HR, 50 RBI, 18 Doubles Mark Teixeira - .249/.359/.517/.876, 16 HR, 38 RBI, 8 Doubles If Tex gets voted in ahead of Gonzalez, it's going to be complete ********. I hate Fan Vote.
  23. I'm actually not upset with Francona subbing Sutton for Gonzo for one reason only. The situation made it ok. He subbed him with nobody out, Youk - Cam - Crawford coming up (all of them have gap and HR power), and it was an extra inning game. If he subbed Gonzo out from 1st base with 2 outs, or from 2nd base with 1 out and down by 1, I'm singing a different tune, but the situation called for it. Besides - Gonzo wouldn't have made it to 2nd on that botched DP ball that Cameron hit, so Sutton at least gave Crawford a shot to rip a base hit and score him, whereas Gonzo would have been doubled off. If Crawford gets a hit there, nobody even thinks twice about this.
