  1. Great article. I went back and looked at some stats. After striking out 29 times and walking 4 times in his first 95 PA/91 AB (31.8% K rate, 4.2% BB rate), he has become much, much more selective hitter. Since then (65 PA, 57 AB), he has K'd only 8 times (14%) and BB'd 4 times (6.2%), a drastic improvement. Very encouraging sign. I have definitely noticed that he has been laying off of a lot of sliders/changeups low, away, etc rather than hacking away like I would expect a rookie to do.
  2. Cherrington was just on with Stern and Bowden. Some highlights. - Starting Pitching is the top trade target between now and July 31st. We all probably assumed this, but at least now we know this. - Josh Beckett will be activated from the DL when they travel to Seattle. - No players have come to Cherrington to complain about BobbyV. - *Best for last* - Red Sox are projecting both Carl Crawford and Jacoby Ellsbury to return by the All Star Break. To me, that means that Crawford and Ellsbury will be playing in the Yankees series.
  3. First off, he's averaging 6.2 IP per start. That's pretty freaking good. Only leaving 7 outs to the bullpen is excellent. Second, his BABIP over those starts has been .392. So the balls that get put in play are going for hits at an extraordinarily large clip, which results in more pitches having to be thrown. So his efficiency has actually been fine. He's just getting absolutely screwed. I'm not making excuses for him, I'm pointing out stats that prove he's throwing very well.
  4. Bonafide aces? No. Better than they have? Sure. But they don't have to both be sub-3.00 ERA guys who throw 220+ IP. Lester has been throwing very well, he's just been terrorized with s*** luck. 34 K's, 5 BB's, 1 HR in his past 5 games and he's got a 4.05 ERA. He should have about a 1.30 ERA in those starts. His FIP over his past 5 starts is actually -1.11. Yes. He's got a negative FIP. I didn't even think that was possible. Feel free to correct me, but here's how I came up with it. 1 HR, 34 K, 5 BB, 1 HBP, 0 IBB Formula: (HR*13+(BB+HBP-IBB)*3-K*2)/IP = (13 + (5 + 1 - 0) * 3 - 34 * 2)/33.33 = (13 + 6 * 3 - 34 * 2)/33.33 =(13 + 18 - 68)/33.33 = (31-68)/33.33 =-37/33.33 = -1.11 Baseball will even itself out, and it's about time that Lester's numbers start to reflect how he's throwing, rather than posting a 4.05 ERA over those 5 starts with a -1.11 FIP. And even if my math is somehow wrong, those numbers are still elite and do not even get close to reflecting a 4.05 ERA accurately.
  5. Wow this is a good call. I had no idea, but in 2008, Morales was ranked as the 8th best prospect in baseball per Baseball America. Seems like he's been able to harness his control a lot more, too. If he can do that, he can be a top of the rotation guy, based on his stuff and his newly found change.
  6. Maybe don't drop GD's in the gamethread titles, either.... That can't be good mojo.
  7. Man this is such a frustrating game. We really should win this game. Rays down 6-0, too. If that sticks, we have a shot of picking up a game on them. Freaking Doubront. That was such a bitch start by him.
  8. Looked way better off the bat than it turned out.
  9. Gotta be able to come back and put 2 on the board. Lets freaking go.
  10. It was 3 inches over his glove. Go watch the replay. He had it lined up perfectly.
  11. Just an absolute piss poor outing tonight for Doubront. Absolutely horrid.
  12. God I'm so sick of all of these f***ing bitch hits, it's been all f***ing week
  13. Christ Doubront would it be so much to ask for a clean f***ing inning?!?
  14. That's how you cut it in half boys!!!
  15. There is absolutely nothing more deflating than giving up first inning runs. Pisses me off to no end.
  16. Hopefully Middlebrooks gets his RBI so the Sox can win tonight. I did have my legs crossed the wrong way, so I'll take the blame for the 1st inning.
