I agree completely. Drew should be relegated to bench duty at this point with Middlebrooks and Bogaerts given the chance to battle it out for the 3rd base position. Having Iggy at 3rd is a waste of his range.
The simple answer to this question is the FO cares. If a guy's success is unsustainable the FO needs to have a plan in place for when the inevitable regression happens. That's just the reality of baseball today with advanced stats so easily available. I don't think it's that fans aren't appreciating the production when it's happening, it's that many fans realize the success isn't exactly sustainable due to how it is occurring.
I don't think he's incorrect on Iglesias. While I don't believe he's close to being demoted, the facts stand that his BA is greatly inflated by an unsustainable number of infield hits. Iggy has been slumping big time the past month or so and he'll need to pick it up if he's going to stay in the lineup every day.
Peavy's money is far from crippling. He had one of the best years of his career last year and only has 1 year left at $14 million. He won't hit his player option for 2015 due to his injury early this year (which was not an elbow or shoulder). Depending on the price in prospects I'd love to see the Sox add him at the deadline.
Is there an indication that the FO values Barnes more than Ranaudo? Just based off performance this year I'd think Ranaduo has more value, but the White Sox may not be interested in Barnes, which is why Ranaudo's name is popping up.
I would think if Peavy and Crain are going to be acquired it'd take a lower 1st tier guy. I'm thinking maybe Barnes. However if they could make it work with the guys like you mentioned that'd obviously be ideal.
One name I haven't seen mentioned a ton is Greg Holland. I'm wondering what the asking price is on him. He has been one of the 2 or 3 best closers in baseball after a bit of a rough start. He's 27 and I believe has a couple years on club control left so I'm sure he won't be cheap.
People forget WMB had only played 3 months in the majors before opening day. He's going to go through growing pains in the majors. He'll bounce back soon.
The situation worked out surprisingly well. He struggled but the team still got off to a great start and it's not a complete s*** storm with him getting sent down because most people realize he still needs a bit of seasoning. I'm guessing he'll be back up this summer sometime.
