Well for somebody "well versed in what's going on over the water in Britain with regards to Liverpool." you really have a LOT of points incorrect there mate.
Jaypers, where to start........
1) How do Red Sox fans feel about our legendary American institution propping up a sports club whose fans have been known to burn the stars and stripes?
If you actually KNEW why that happened (a small majority of very frustrated and long suffering fans from the city) you would KNOW that it was NOT against the USA but with regard to a certain TOM HICKS. The former owner of the Texas Rangers, you know as much about that fiasco? The Dallas Stars?
2) How do Red Sox fans feel about our legendary institution propping up a soccer club whose fans were responsible for European football's most horrific act of hooliganism? This is the knd of link we don't need.
AGAIN, totally sounding like the gutter press in England or a "fan" of such "Great teams" as Chelsea!!!! The Hysel disaster was a terrible, terrible event and yes, it is associated with Liverpool. Yet, if you knew anything about "football" in the 1980's in England you would know what happened. Most of the thugs during that were NOT Liverpool fans and more so the "bover boys/thugs" of ENGLISH football. Research the facts before making broad accusations.
3) Liverpool's football club are in freefall. Possibly they are on the brink of becoming a casuality of the world's finanacial crisis. Cancer has set in there and cancer spreads. I do not want the Red Sox putting themselves in a position whereby the cancer spreads to us and our great institution. We spent a long time getting ourselves fixed - getting into bed with a xenophobic, anti-American basket case of a sports club would be utter madness. Bailing out Liverpool would be like signing up Mike Tyson and OJ Simpson for our next PR campaign. Utter madness.
AGAIN, facts are NOT true.
Liverpool Football Club has such history, it's hard for people to comprehend. The fact that 3 years ago, Liverpool were the NUMBER 1 team in Europe rank. 2 European Cup finals in 3 years. 5 times winner of this world sought after competition. so MANY more accolades than you will ever know.
Two AMERICAN guys, Tom Hicks and George Gillett came in and bought the club on borrowed money. (Read about Tom Hicks and his failed sports ventures.) They took the mighty Reds and basically have dragged the club into a mire. Liverpool Football Club are and have been the most successful club in England. Their fans are world wide, loved by millions. Read the history of the club and you will know what they mean to the working class people of the city. Liverpool Football Club is NOT just a "Sports Franchise" is is a lot more than you know.
If you actually really were "well versed in what's going on over the water in Britain with regards to Liverpool"........
