  1. Isn't Dice-K going to be coming back this year? Why couldn't we just through him into the 5th spot. He is playing for another contract in 2012 ( I believe) so he might end up having a good showing.
  2. no, I would take Aceves over Bard. I think Bard is more valuable where he was at then as a starter.
  3. I would much rather have Aceves as our 5th starter. He has proved that he can go for more then one inning last year. But, I am not the manager.
  4. Off-topic, but I was thinking, did we ever get compensation for Theo Epstein? I don't remember hearing anything about.
  5. I agree with you. The average age of your star guys is 29, You can't consider that old!
  6. How are we older? The Red Sox replaced J.D. Drew (37) with Ryan Sweeny (27), Jason Varitek (39) with Shoppach (31), Papelbon (31) with Baily (27). If anything, we are a younger team this year, not older.
  7. I would make the argument that the AL was different in 2004 then it is now. We didn't have to deal with they Rays back then. It was a two team race. You add another team to the mix, it become a lot harder to win and get into the post season.
  8. by the way, you are being blind to the offensive numbers last year. Just look at the numbers. Besides that one month they were putting up godly amount of runs.
  9. Call me crazy, but I would take Crawford over Manny. That is the Rays version of Crawford. He may not be able to put up as significant as offensive numbers as Manny Ramirez did, but he can put up a decent amount of offense and he can field 10 times better than Manny Ramirez could.
  10. I completely disagree. Go down the line of position players that we have now and that we had in 04. You wouldn't pick half of those players to be on your team if you have the options that we have now. If you just forget about the world championship and forget about last year's collapse, for a second and just concentrate on pure numbers. Then there would be no justifying picking Bill Miller over Kevin Youkilis. But, there is no doubt I would definitely take the hart and desire of the 04 team and put them into the waste of talent that we have now.
  11. Talent wise no, they weren't. But they do have something that this team doesn't have, chemistry and a desire to win. I mean come on, you can't tell, that on paper you would take Kevin Millar over Adrian Gonzalez. Only if we could put the 04 teams attitude into the 2012 team.
  12. At least that 2004 had a hart!
  13. if we field anything like the village idiots that we had in 2004, which by the way, won the World Series; then I would be pretty happy with that team.
  14. This is not a block buster move; but at least he brings a better glove. Although, he is not an offensive boost.
  15. I agree with you. Aceves is far from being a question mark as a starter. He did have a lot of long relief showings during last season, which he have shown that he was dominating the apposing batters. The only one that has the question mark when it comes to becoming a starter is going to be Bard. Although he has one strong arm, IMO he doesn't have the complementary pitch to go along with that fast ball and that might hurt him if you put him into the starting role.
  16. So why did we go get a guy who isn't better. This move made us even worse off; financially, and offensively. I was happier with the kid learning the ropes. Shoppach BA, RBI's, and OBP is worse then Tek. They hit the same amount of home runs. By the way, Jason played in less games. So, please tell me how we are better off. You can't justify this signing.
  17. Tek knows how to manage the pitching staff. Shoppach doesn't. Also, look at the numbers. Tek has done better in every category.
  18. Ewwww, Shoppach! Tek brings more to the table then this ass hat.
