  1. If the Yankees faced the Mets 12 more times every year, you might as well hand them the AL East on a silver platter every year. The correct way to handle interleague play is to give each division the same opponents for the same amount of games every year. If that means more/less interleague play, I don't care either way, but parity is more important than anything else.
  2. Maybe this is just anecdotal, but I remember Doubront being much more dominant last year, but only in stretches. This year he has been much more consistent, but he has lost the dominance. I know we were just arguing about the unimportance of strikeouts in the other thread, but he dropped from 9.34 K/9 to 7.66 K/9.
  3. It all depends on what they receive in return.
  4. A k will always be better than a double play though. By taking pitches you also give a runner more chances to advance along the basepaths and wears out the opposing pitcher. Have any of the baseball statistic sites done a study on this?
  5. The statistic that stood out the most to me was that the top 6 pitchers started 90% of the games this season. There were very few games where the Sox threw out a s*** pitcher with absolutely no chance to win. I hope the Red Sox management realizes that is the way to win a division.
  6. Lackey is making 16 million next year, and league minimum the following year. If they try to trade him, he would arguably be worth more than any other free agent starting pitcher, and more than any other possible trade candidates besides Price. If someone was willing to give up an elite prospect like the Will Myer for Shields deal, it might be good to sell high. Otherwise, he has pitched way to well to get kicked off the team. Felix Doubront may be the guy they trade. His work ethnic doesn't seem to be as high as the rest of the group, and with 4 more years of control, he may pull in a quality piece as well.
  7. Maybe when Selig is gone, the next commissioner will ban his cheating ass.
  8. The option vested. He's coming back.
  9. I think there are some resemblances. After all these year, I bet people who saw him might mistake the two of us
  10. What?! Nahhh. I'm here now for this postseason, aren't I?
  11. Every single person who predicted the Red Sox to win high numbers started pretty much every post with "if Lester and Buchholz...". I think based on Clay's health, I don't think there is a single sane person who predicted this.
  12. All the reports seem to claim that the Red Sox did not make much, if any extra revenue because of Dice-k. However, it seems to me that the Red Sox started and stopped displaying Japanese advertisements behind home plate along with Dice-k's starts.
  13. I may or may not have been bored and added it to Urban Dictionary.
  14. Well s***, I just realized I have never been around for a Talksox playoff game. f*** 2009-2012.
  15. Yotn, didn't you try opening a chat room once to little to no success? Probably keep it to the gamethreads... it'll be fast and furious but still crazy and fun.
  16. They have to slow down at some point. Cano just seems like an insane surplus.
  17. Anyone notice that Lavarnway has quietly been having a good season? .311/.342/.446/.788 and still not that many games under his belt. It would be phenominal to see him bring his .284/.373/.471/.844 career line in AAA to the majors.
  18. You want a power hitter. Why not get the guy who has been averaging 34 home runs a year since 2009, all at a premier position? He had freak injuries, contact-related, not durability injuries. If he could be had for 4/50, what's not to like?
  19. Here's a thought. Instead of Stanton, go after Granderson. He could be this year's Shane Victorino, and will be a helluva lot cheaper than Ellsbury. Plus, taking something from the Yankees is always fun.
  20. Ruiz, Salty, McCann, Pierzynski. Catcher is actually one of the strongest areas in the FA market this offseason.
  21. McCann seems like a better fit than Choo/Stanton right now, doesn't he? The Red Sox already have good options in the outfield, even moreso if they resign Ellsbury. Get McCann for one-two seasons at catcher, move him to DH/ 3rd catcher duties in the future. He's the kind of guy who helps your team in many ways, and you might not need to break the bank for him like you would with Choo.
  22. If that is the case, then why are Bogaertz + Bradley + company here, and Stanton still in Miami? The Red Sox had enough pieces to overwhelm Miami, but it didn't happen. I think you don't understand exactly what kind of prospect + financial cost Stanton would be. Especially considering that Napoli can give almost near-same production as him for significantly less, and less risk. This debate will go around in circles from here, I think.
  23. THEEEE YANKEEES ELIMINATED!!! Sorry, had to be done.
  24. Chris Sale is probably the only top tier starter who will be available, and he'd be pretty difficult to pry away as well.
  25. You're essentially adding 1 top 20 prospect and 1 top 50 prospect. That's considerably more talent. We're also talking about a Corner OF here. This is a guy whose fWar this year was 2.3 because he was a butcher in the field. If you pull in Stanton, he's going to have to replace the Nava/Gomes platoon in LF. Nava had a .880 OPS against righties this year, with a .400 OBP. Gomes has been hovering around .775 against lefties, but he's been at his best in clutch appearances. Hell, why not get Shin-Soo Choo for half the financial cost, and take his .390 OBP and .850 OPS AND your prospects? There are just so many better ways to improve the team.
