I recently read Moneyball (I know, pretty late to the game there) and it was amazing to me how you can see the genesis of the curse breaking Sox teams as you're reading the books. You see the mentions of John Henry and his interest in stats, the talk of Theo Epstein loving Billy Beane, and of course the contract and then controversy for Beane himself.
In many ways, you could read that book and see the relatively simple formula for the Sox to break the curse: Moneyball + Money = 2 World Series.
