  1. hope he does well.
  2. At this point, we have no clue what Lee would have cost. It looks like the main obstacle was Lee's salary.
  3. So Iggy gets dealt for Peavy. Maybe the WSx remember Aparicio in the Al Lopez days. Peavy is just too much like Dempster to get excited.
  4. At this point, the media has managed to confuse everybody about Lee.
  5. Somebody tweeted Bradley has a "very minor elbow injury". Why he was taken out in the 6th. Rosenthal tweets Red Sox aren't involved with Lee. He also said earlier Young would go only to Texas. He does work for Fox, and Fox pays the Dodgers to buy players.
  6. This Chris Smith guy originally tweeted Bradley, Barnes and Cecchini. He said Phillies high on Barnes and Bradley. He also said Young dropped no trade to Texas and Boston. Hasn't been contradicted on anything so far. Claims his sources are primary--not somebody else's rumors.
  7. Wonder about Ruiz. Hit a HR tonite. Phillies would like to unload him. RHd hitting catcher.
  8. I see a lot of arms in Pawtucket who can help out in the BP. Plus there are arms out there on other teams available for minor prospects.
  9. That kid can pitch. Stays around the strike zone. Gets the curve over. You just never know how these kids are going to do when they come up. Some get better.
  10. Henry just said he wanted to re-sign Ellsbury. In their thinking, that makes Bradley expendable.
  11. Those guys getting pulled is significant. The Phillies would be nuts not to take a package of Sox top prospects plus a half or so of Lee's salary. Indicates they are willing to deal Bradley--unfortunately. But they have Ellsbury, and Lee would make them dominant if Buchholz came back.
  12. Yeah, but are they decisive enough? They appear to be still bickering about Lee's salary.
  13. Meanwhile, the Red Sox and Phillies are bickering about Lee's salary while the Dodgers are watching in amusement. They better get Lee, because it looks like Peavy is spoken for.
  14. This guy Rich Smith now repeats Young will go to Red Sox or Texas. Yankees no. Seems adamant about it. Is Rosenthal ever wrong? He also says Phillies considering no prospects in return for a team paying all of Lee's salary. The Red Sox are working from the other end--saying they can have any prospect if they pay for most of his salary. I doubt the Phillies fans would be happy about giving Lee away. They want some future stars in return. This salary dance strikes me as a bunch of BS. Pull the damn trigger, Henry, if you want this guy. Or the Dodgers will steal him for nothing.
  15. More than one source now says Young will accept a trade only to Texas. That's a relief. I think they were barking up the wrong tree with that guy, experience or no. Middlebrooks is good enough for LHP at this point and a better defender. Or Bogaerts. Play the kids if you're not going to trade them.
  16. Looks like the Dodgers are just waiting for the Phillies best offer for Lee. Then they will jump in and buy Lee for whatever it takes. The question becomes do the Phillies want to send Lee to the AL, and do the Red Sox have prospects they covet and are willing to absorb enough of the money.
  17. So now it's the Dodgers saying take our best 3 prospects and we'll pay all of Lee's salary. The Red Sox should have made a deal before the 900 lb gorilla stepped in. The Red Sox retort: take 4 or our 3-10 prospects and we'll pay most of Lee's salary. My guess: Fox West Cable wins over NESN. Bigger TV market.
  18. Sherman now tweets he's been told Red Sox have enough prospects to do Lee deal without Bogaerts. Consistent with what Rich Smith tweeted last night: Bradley, not Bogaerts. You better fasten your seatbelts.
  19. This guy Rich Smith is now tweeting the Dodgers have jumped back in on Lee. That's a bad sign. They don't figure to care whether the Phillies pick up any of Lee's salary. The Red Sox could come out of this empty handed. You don't have time to haggle with the Dodgers around.
  20. If true, it may give the Phillies a bit more leverage with Lee. The Red Sox may not want to come away with nothing.
  21. Doubt Red Sox would have been a factor here. They are trying to land a bigger fish, anyways. If they get Lee, they probably have enough BP help internal. Or maybe another setup type.
  22. Bradley is the only name I've seen in any rumored deal. Not Bogaerts. It makes sense they would prefer an outfielder.
  23. Rosenthal tweeted earlier Young would wave no trade only for Rangers. That apparently is incorrect. Especially when you consider he has friends on the Red Sox (Napoli). I have no problem with Rosenthal's premise on comparing the deals. Lee figures to put the Red Sox near the top for the next 2-3 years, as Beckett did. Young is no Lowell, but he would be a useful veteran addition. It should be noted that the Red Sox don't figure to pay all of Lee's salary, with the sizeable prospect package they would be sending. They are holding out for half his salary right now, which some believe to be the principal issue. The inclusion of Young also complicates the money and the prospects.
  24. Joel Sherman (NY) tweets Baseball execs have told him Young would wave no trade if traded to Red Sox. This is consistent with what Rich Smith is saying, who may be ahead of the mainstream or faking it. Phillies-Red Sox negotiations are being kept very closed to the media. Maybe Red Sox remember ARod circus. Plus Celtics efforts to trade with Clippers with media ahead of events.
  25. That's the key. Even with Middlebrooks a .240 hitter and Bogaerts the same, they are better off with those two guys in the lineup against LHP than what they have right now. The trick is finding roster space in August. Clearly, they would prefer a veteran like Young at 3B right now. We'll see if they pull this deal off for Young and Lee. Getting Lee would give them a top 3 with Lester and Buchholz hard to beat in a playoffs series.
