  1. My view is they will have to pay Bay closer to Drew money than Youkilis money. It hasn't helped them with Bay that they were willing to pay Texeira how much? before the season. Bay has turned out to be the power hitter he was in Pittsburgh and more in Boston, though he has slumped a bit lately. Clearly, they need him in the middle of their lineup. Right now, Youks looks like his equal, but he wasn't the established power hitter he is now when they extended him at $10 mil per--what is now a bargain. As for Drew, he received the Boras bonus--every Boras client costs more. I think they'll have to be in the 5/70 range to get Bay. Why? Because he can easily get that on the open market. Nickle and diming one of your top hitters doesn't make much sense to me. Theo has wasted more than that signing FA busts at SS in recent years.
  2. Going into the 2nd half, Beckett looks strong. Halliday and Greinke aren't pitching like they did earlier. Halliday coming off an injury. Beckett started slowly, but is maybe the sharpest right now and may also wind up with the most wins, being on the best team.
  3. Since the Sox are 3 games ahead of the Yankees, a Yankee loss is better.
  4. I think he'll get Drew money. That's 5/70 mil. Give or take 5 mil. And he'll be a bargain compared to Texeira.
  5. I don't know the reasoning there. Could be something we don't know about. Tito shuffles the lineup pretty well--he has a lot of talent to work with. I think he wants Drew healthy in September-October, as a priority. Drew can carry a team when he gets hot, but he isn't a 160 game guy. I doubt you would see that platoon in the playoffs if Drew is healthy.
  6. You could say a Penny for the thoughts of the FO on this one. I think they are trying to touch all the bases before the trade deadline July 31. They want to know what they have before they make any deals. Buchholz is either being showcased, or they are seeing if he can take a spot in the rotation. Maybe both, since what they do tradewise will probably also depend on Lowell's health and how Lowrie does at SS when he returns. Right now, I think they have a fair idea of what it will take to get the players they want in trade, but they haven't decided yet if they need them. Is Buchholz trade bait for Halliday? I say it's Santana all over again. They will do whatever is necessary to keep Halliday away from the Yankees. That probably means he stays in Toronto, or goes to the NL.
