  1. Nobody will trade valuable assets for a closer. You think the fans of the Boston Red Sox are the only people who are noticing Papelbon's subpar performances? Other teams are watching.
  2. I think I would be pretty pissed because I think with Halladay you have a guy that you know is going to be a horse for you for the next two years AT LEAST and be able to step in the #2 starter role in the playoffs. With Cliff Lee, you're getting a guy who spent part of 2007 in the minors at 28 years old because he wasn't good enough and has had one good season. Outside of last season he's had a pretty mediocre career. He has a career ERA of 4.37 if you don't include his 2008 campaign..even then his career ERA is 4.01. One third of his career wins came last year and he's been a pro for 8 seasons. And on top of all that he's going to cost likely 90% of what Halladay will cost. Absolutely not.
  3. It's hard when you're asked to throw 4 or 5 innings 3 out of every 5 games.
  4. Nice and easy inning...lol. One more inning from RR is reasonable.
  5. I also liked the 0 BB stat. I didn't watch the game but he must not have been too nervous, like you would expect out of a young pitcher. I really like Tazawa's chances to be a solid middle of the rotation guy next year. Seems to be quite the opposite of Dice-K. A big strikeout guy but not the big walk guy.
  6. I'm actually watching the game..Are you? It's the top of the 5th now.
  7. Tazawa tonight in his first AAA start 6 IP, 3 hits, 1 ER, 3 K, 0 BB
  8. Gotta keep having faith in the kid. He looks like a nervous wreck when he's in the stretch though, a blast from the past.
  9. Is it crazy to say that I'd add Lowrie to the current offer we made to get it done? Pick up a SS on waivers and let Green play the rest of the year. Lowrie isn't turning heads offensively, he's not untouchable by any means.
  10. He's making his first start tonight against Nelson Figueroa, who is putting up pretty good numbers at AAA with a 2.42 ERA. Should be a good test.
  11. Joe McDonald and Paul Kenyon of The Providence Journal say that Ricciardi wanted pitchers Clay Buchholz, Casey Kelly, and another top prospect from the Red Sox in exchange for Halladay. http://www.projo.com/redsox/content/sp_bb_red_sox_journal_28_07-28-09_GOF6SLI_v2.30ef481.html Not sure if it's been posted.
  12. Joe Jackson's 1919 WS numbers .375/.394/.563/.956, 1 HR, 6 RBI, 18 TB, 5 runs, 1 BB, 2 K, 0 errors Men lie, women lie, numbers don't.
  13. Maybe I went a bit overboard but a lot of people don't even know his name, gotta get them to actually view the thread one way or another. Ha
  14. It's not like it's been two games, not a SSS in my opinion. After a while you have to realize it's not really a fluke. Obviously he'll never hit .422 but he has an incredible approach to hitting, a beautiful swing and an incredible eye, which he has shown at every level, with an OBP over .400 this season.
  15. Jason Heyward (Atlanta Braves) at AA in 77 plate appearences .422/.506/.734/1.241 and just 5 strikeouts Holy...oh yeah he's 19 year olds.
  16. Report: Bug Selig said to reconsidering Pete Rose's status for reinstatement - ESPN
  17. I think the fact that we saw a guy like Daniel Bard develop his control so tremendously is a reason to be hopeful, believe in the system. Bard was a BB machine a few seasons ago, look at him now. I also believe that after they essentially taught him a lesson and put him in the minors after he s*** the bed, it made him more deterimed and now he has less job security. They just handed him the job in 2008, young kids shouldn't ever be handed something. When your kid gets his license, you don't buy him the Mercedes Benz, you buy him the cheap car and make him earn a better car by showing he's responsible enough to handle it. :dunno: Now that they've made him work for it, I think he learned his lesson and is going to be more focused which will lead to better control, which will lead to results and strikeouts which will lead to confidence which will eventually lead him to being a top of the rotation pitcher.
  18. Fernando Cabrera to the temporarily inactive list I think. 7/24/2009 Released Paul McAnulty, activated Randor Bierd, placed Fernando Cabrera on the TIA 7/26/2009 Promoted Junichi Tazawa to Pawtucket; activated Adam Mills from Lowell paper move
  19. Well Buchholz and Bowden are both Major League ready in my opinion. :dunno: Bowden's just being blocked by Buchholz who WAS being blocked by Smoltz. Bowden's currently in AAA trying to work on developing his slider, which are why his stats don't seem as godly.
  20. Woah..Tazawa actually got promoted to AAA Pawtucket tonight. Good to hear and I'm looking forward to seeing his next start. http://pressherald.mainetoday.com/blog/blogs/clearing-the-bases/tazawa-promoted-to-triple-a Next start should be Tuesday @ Buffalo.
  21. The problem with Smoltz is only HALF the fact that he's been pretty bad and put us out of reach in games with zero chance to come back. He's also been a bullpen killer when he can't go more than 5 innings.
