  1. I'm not sure if people realize sometimes how ridiculous Josh Beckett has been after his slow start. We haven't seen somebody quite this dominant since Pedro in 2000. Beckett hasn't been that great but he's been just a notch below. Because of the slow start the season stats appear pretty similar to 2007 but he had a 3.58 ERA in the same time period in 2007. I think Beckett has been MUCH better and I think he's been MUCH more efficient. Since May 16th 15 GS, 109.1 IP, 10-2, 1.89 ERA, 0.898 WHIP, 3 CG, 67 Strikes% Opponents hitting .198/.245/.290/.536 Wow. I know that the Cy Young is the full body of work but even that has been pretty damn impressive. I think he has just as good a shot to win it as anybody. I'm not even being biased. I think he's in the top five, obviously not the frontrunner yet. Let's enjoy watching Beckett while we can, we're likely going to get just a few more years of this type of performance out of him..probably better at some point.
  2. Even if Sabathia threw 3 straight complete game shutouts his ERA would still only be 7th in the AL. Too many pitchers are having GREAT years in the AL. I'm sure his WHIP would improve and his win total would entice voters but his ERA, ERA+ etc. would still be inadequate.
  3. Pawtucket is pretty much a wash with players who will never be in the Majors. It seems like the Red Sox don't even waste time with players in AAA and most of their development takes place at AA.
  4. Reactionary would be making this thread after a single dreadful game where we leave 15 men on base, get 1 hit and no runs. This offensive output has been the same since the beginning of July.
  5. Yeah I guess everybody on the team is untouchable, coaching staff included and we should just call for Epstein's head. That sounds like a much more realistic thread to make. I'll get right on that.
  6. Some of the blame. Even our best hitters Pedroia, Youkilis, Ortiz etc. are struggling.
  7. Does he take some of the blame for the lack of hitting or no? Is his job on the line for the rest of the season? Wondering what everybody else thinks..because I'm not really sure. When he first got here in 2007, with a good healthy lineup they increased their average, obp, slg and walks significantly. So he isn't horrible and I'm not saying he is..its just when the hitting is horrible a lot of people usually look to the manager but Magadan is the guy working with them on a regular basis in the cages and in BP. Of course it's up to the hitters to execute but if you used that excuse every time coaches would stay until they die. Sometimes a change is in order. He was fired from SD because their AVG hit an NL low..but it isn't as if his offense has improved too much either. That's on the front office from SD for putting a crappy lineup out there.
  8. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/orl-rashard-lewis-tests-positive-steroids,0,1959796.story The NBA's steroid policy is so weak. 10 games for first time offense, 25 games for second time offense, one year ban for third time offense and after four offense it's a lifetime ban. Compared to the MLB and NFL in terms of percentage of games missed for each offense, an absolute joke.
  9. Looks like Junichi Tazawa (#5 on Soxprospects) from Pawtucket in the AAA game and Felix Doubront (#12 on Soxprospects) from Portland in the AA game the way it's lined up right now for Saturday. Players who will be in the game of note... #2 OF Josh Reddick (AAA) if he's sent back down #3 1B Lars Anderson (AA) #4 SP Michael Bowden (AAA) #9 OF Ryan Kalish (AA) #10 SS Yamaico Navarro (AA) #15 C Luis Exposito (AA)
  10. It would be awesome to see Penny put forth his best effort of the year and give us 7 innings. Is Papelbon unavailable tonight because he threw an inning last night? Better not be. The only players I'd say are unavailable are Bard (just give him a mental break) as well as MDC, RR and Saito who all put forth brilliant efforts last night.
  11. So is anybody that doesn't obsess with sabermetric stats a pink hat fanr? Even if they've been a fan for over 12 years? I'm guessing that's where this is going.
  12. Typical of stat geeks to try and say Zobrist is a better hitter than Longoria using formulas that were made up by "experts". Watch the games, please.
  13. ?? Great insight, you're a great poster.
  14. Well with 40 more plate appearances or so...the stats are pretty much the same which tells me he's been pretty consistent since. 15 walks compared to 10 strikeouts in 109 plate appearances is great no matter how you draw it up. .422/.505/.722/1.227, 17 XBH, 4 HR, 21 RBI, 15 BB, 10 SO in 109 plate appearances at AA
  15. I didn't buy the excuse about facing Zobrist. Zobrist is not equal to Longoria. There's a reason Mike Schmidt against the Red Sox..I mean Evan Longoria bats 3rd. That's where your best hitter is.
  16. Great. Don't walk Longoria.
  17. Longoria ends it here. Goodnight.
  18. Time for Youk to take the nation on his back like Pedroia did in 2008.
  19. Rough nites for Upton and Reddick, both 1-5 with 4 K's
  20. http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/bos/fan_forum/here_spots.jsp I'm watching the "Here Life is so good, so good, so good" commercial for inspiration
