  1. Yeah, maybe so. I'm not really good for much else!
  2. As the unofficial greeter for Talksox, welcome to the game thread suffolk!
  3. Game on. 1-0 so far in the top of the first. Ugh.
  4. Yup. I'm not a huge fan of Smoltz (admittedly because I think Ted Turner is a puke). But he is still working his way back. No one expects him to be the Smoltz of old, but I believe we can reasonably expect him to be effective since he has so much experience and has come back from injuries in the past. Maybe it's just wishful thinking. Who knows?
  5. I got to shake his hand and thank him. And watch as my Son had his picture taken with the big guy. Mo seemed totally at ease with the process. My Camry wagon (aka the "Divorce-Mobile") survived, thankfully.
  6. And I did not embellish. Imagine that! It's all true.
  7. You know, my first thoughts were that other than prosecution, my immediate concern would be how to be able to survive living in a cave or jungle somewhere in South America. Really.
  8. As a matter of fact, I did. He looked puzzled and did not remember the indecent. I think.
  9. I'm still a newbie. Much of this message board stuff is still new territory to me. "Having said that", I enjoy reading and absorbing the posts of all members. I don't agree with some opinions but I respect anyone willing to put their ideas out there. Some times it's difficult to understand what is serious and what is just sarcasm. While debate helps make this community strong and interesting, personal attacks and the resulting snark fests it promotes serves no purpose. It's fun initially but ultimately serves no purpose other than to demean others and bore the s*** out of people who come here to share ideas. I encourage the free exchange of ideas. I hope we can all achieve this without hurtful attacks on others. With the possible exception of semi-literate text style posters.
  10. In November 1999 my Son attended a Nomar/Mo Vaughn hitting camp at Strike One Motivated Sports in Danvers, Ma.. I drove up to the camp for the Graduation. My Son was already there having been dropped off by his Mother. As I approached Strike One on Rt.1 north, a car closed on my car to within one car length. At about 50 mph this got my attention. I was watching this car in my rear view mirror as I neared the driveway into the Strike One parking lot. I could not apply the brakes as this ass whole would have collided with me. I should have just kept going straight and past my turn-off but made a hasty decision to turn in at speed. As I did this, I noticed a man walking from the parking lot towards the building. I came within about three feet from hitting him as I swerved into the lot. He turned around. It was Nomar. He glared at me and continued into the building. This was at the height of his career and his popularity. Can you imagine what kind of s*** I would have been in had I actually hit him? In 2000 I met him at another camp held at Bridgwater State College. He was a very nice young man with a very "average guy" demeanor.
  11. I don't see what is so objectionable about Bates at 1st. We have no options right now. He seems OK defensively and has demonstrated some potential at the plate (albeit at AA). I say give the kid a chance until Kotsay is well enough to play.
  12. What's the likelihood that tonight's game gets played? It's been raining since about 11:00AM 35 miles SW of Fenway.
  13. I realize that this is not a legit vote. I'm just voicing support for another member.
  14. I vote that a700 stays. Props to any New Yorker that has the sack to be a Sox fan. Plus, he is an "older guy" (like myself) and is able to add perspective to an otherwise "young" board.
  15. No, I did not. Nomar would not solve any short or long term deficiencies for the Sox. He can't play the left side anymore, from what I've read. That would leave him as a RH bat at first (at best) or DH. I don't think that's enough to justify relinquishing valuable prospects/relief talent. I see the Sox sticking with Kotsay at first and Youk at third at least until Lowell and Lowrie come back. They will then reassess the situation and make a move if necessary. Nomar would be a "sentimental" acquisition. That's just not consistent with the history of mid-season deals that the current FO regime has made. It makes no business sense.
  16. So you're a pussy too! 7 pints. Jeesh.
  17. The Lowell situation will likely linger throughout the season. The Sox will have to deal with it in the second half. But at what price? And what roster moves will be needed to accommodate the acquisition? We'll see. In the mean time, please post more frequently. Your avatar is the best on Talksox.
  18. I realize that. I've read all the posts. There's no sense in discussing the issue further. At least as I see it. How about discussing how the Sox can improve their offense against seemingly marginal talent? That would be interesting.
  19. The both of you should go masturbate and flood your systems with endorphins. This will hopefully allow you to gain perspective and realize that it is just one game. Don't forget the Kleenex.
  20. It was a suck night for the Sox and for Sox fans. There is no need to start trading barbs with other members of Talksox. I'm not pointing fingers, rather, just stating something that should be obvious to us all. Tomorrow's another day. Beckett RULES! That is all.
