  1. I don't think it's neccesarily a "CURSE" per say... but I definitely think the weight of expectations has a lot to do with a team not succeeding, and once A-Rod went to the Yanks, they were supposed to be a LOCK for world series contention. As for the Sox curse, I think the weight of years of postseason failures started to build up into a lingering problem. Now that the Sox won a couple, there's not that lingering problem, while the Yanks still have become victims of their own expectations...that's what I meant, if that makes any sense.
  2. Easy to say after the fact...
  3. Carmona can't possibly hold up for that much longer....this guy has a history of falling off once he's pitched a few innings...
  4. I feel like A-Rod officially reversed the Bambino curse in the other direction. Yankees have underachieved every year since they signed him, and the Red Sox have totally reversed their fortunes since the signing.
  5. Sox are on fire! Looks like they're in the running for most wins in April after sweeping the Yankees. Probably between them, the Dodgers, the Jays, and the Cards.
  6. Penny should be a great pickup for Boston. His numbers were down last year, but I think without the pressure of being the #1 ace on the staff, he should be very productive for the Sox next year. Moreover, even if he's inconsistent, he's still good for a couple of big games down the stretch (if he stays healthy).
  7. Mayflower= Pilgrams= Plymouth Rock= Massachusettes= BOSTON RED SOX...likely answer
  8. True! Never thought about that. Not like the purple and green was a better alternative....
  9. Forgot to mention that you get 5 additional entries in the sweepstakes for getting the correct answer.
  10. Yes- I stand corrected, it was Major League 2 I was referring to: SOURCE: Wikipedia Rick 'Wild Thing' Vaughn (Charlie Sheen) The star pitcher of the Cleveland Guardians in the first film has lost his edge and has become more business-like and professional in both appearance and personality. His new girlfriend (Alison Doody) is responsible for this transformation and Vaughn has lost his distinct haircut, endorses products such as Right Guard deodorant, and he even names his pitches. This change affects his game negatively and his old girlfriend (Michelle Burke) helps him regain his former edge. As before, his signature entrance is set to a hard rock cover of The Troggs' hit song "Wild Thing", performed by the Los Angeles-area punk band X.
  11. Charlie Sheen in Major League 3! *Cues up Wild Thing*
  12. Fenway has to stay open as long as possible. With baseball struggling with its image, I think historic parks like Fenway and Wrigley field are the sort of fixtures that are pivitol to keeping modern baseball associated with its rich history. I think closing parks like Fenway would be yet another devestating PR blow to the MLB.
  13. Ok, so 3 changes+ alternate throwback uni's all the time throughout the course of the season. A little hyperbole...but I remember a time when the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim were the California Angels- pardon the nostalgia, but the uniform/name change reflect the ideological transformation of the organization over the last decade.
  14. I like it. Keeps the classic look but still has a modern feel to it, at least there's no drastic change. Someone needs to tell that to the Angels, seems like they make a uniform adjustment every time Vlad chokes in the postseason (That makes at least 5 uniform changes in the last 5 years).
  15. I post on several boards, joined some new ones today, so I let those boards know about the program as well. Just because I mentioned the trivia contest in a post doesn't mean that's the only reason I'm here- I WANT TO TALK BASEBALL. Sorry, maybe I should have waited until I had a higher post count to start my own topic. *White flag*
  16. Understandable perspective- but I will be contributing to the forum discussions. I just thought this would be something of interest to Sox fans (Red Sox are top contender in the AL, not confident in the Angels/Rays/or Yankees to make the Series). I apoligize if this came off as a solicitation- just wanted to make you guys aware of a way to get tickets.
  17. I'll put it this way- If the speculation phase is based on numbers and raw ability- Puljols is clean. Then again, so was A-rod under those pretenses...
  18. As someone who's lived in Los Angeles for 15 years, I can confirm that Piazza is a cheater. You don't go from hitting 40 homeruns a year to struggling to get 10 without having used. *See: Adrian Beltre
  19. Now that they test for steroids (and report the results), it will be tough on Shef to earn a spot in someone's batting order.
  20. ***DELETED DUE TO VINDICTIVE PUBLIC OPINION***
