  1. First of all, he didn't hit first for a significant time. Averaging 12 games a year at leadoff is not significant. The guy is a middle of the order run producer who is averaging 120 runs produced a season. Not good enough for a winning offense. And not good enough for the financial commitment the team has made to him. And again, the biggest issue is the lock in. When you lock a player in like this, it prohibits the team from upgrading if he underperforms, as Drew has done.
  2. Yup, and this despite some shoddy defense. Can he go 7?
  3. While I agree with most of this, allow me to make three points. 1. Durability is important. Although Drew has a good career OPS, if he averages only 64 total RBIs a year, he is underperforming. A 800 run team should expect to get at least 100 RBI out of a $14 million middle of the order hitter. Of course, aside from only one season in his 11 year career, Drew hasn't reached that threshold. 2. The 5-year $70 million commitment essentially locks the team out of considering a replacement if Drew is marginally underperforming. So the team needs to live with mediocrity if he doesn't produce. 3. I know I'm in the minority here, but I believe his defense is overrated. Does he have the tools? Yes. But, like all things Drew, the best shows up only sporadically. So, while I don't believe Drew is among the Sox top five problems this year, his contract limits the Sox options as he continues to underperform.
  4. yer basic drew non chalant
  5. Arod's a wimp.
  6. Pedroia isn't driving the ball. He seems messed up.
  7. There are card games on the team plane.
  8. Do we have any more minor leaguers on the roster we can play against the Yankees?
  9. Yeah, the whole series.
  10. Clay stepped up today. At least we've got that going for us.
  11. Youk takes him out and he still gets Lowell by a step. You couldn't write a script for a more pathetic offensive showing than this.
  12. Is it true that Ortiz's DR trainer is a walking roid pharmacy? Isn't he the one that MLB banned? Frankly, as much as I have always been an Ortiz fan, I don't know why anyone would believe this supplement story.
  13. Epstein is responsible regardless of who does the scouting and player evaluations. He has done a good job in amateur player acquisition and development. Similarly, he is responsible for ML player acquisitions and contracts. In my opinion, he has done a poor job overall in this function, despite some obvious winners.
  14. Here we go again. Are personal attacks really necessary here?
  15. This place attracks spam maggots like bad meat.
  16. Me and Theo, since he gave him $5 million to perform this year. You don't give 5.20/1.50 that kind of dough.
  17. I expected a core pitching acquisition to be better than a 5.20 ERA and 1.50 WHIP.
  18. You have to look at the body of work. While individual moves are always subject to criticism, at some point a pattern of consistent success or failure with those moves emerges. Also, every GM should be responsible for the makeup of the roster. Short of the swine flu, there simply is no excuse for a high budget team to run out of competitive players.
  19. Ortiz with time for more research...
  20. The legal excuse is exactly that, an excuse. It's past the criminal statute of limitations.
  21. With 2 outs, the proper strategy was to walk the bases loaded and face the rookie.
  22. Right. Zobrist is 2 for 23 against the Red Sox with 0 HR and just 2 RBI. Longoria is 17 for 46 against the Red Sox with 7 HR and 24 RBI.
