  1. Farrell declines Mariners interview by Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff November 10, 2008 Though Red Sox pitching John Farrell was expected to be interviewed for the vacant Seattle managerial job, he has declined that offer, according to baseball sources. Farrell did the same last offseason when the Pirates were interested in speaking with him about a job that eventually went to John Russell, citing loyalty to an organization with which he'd been for only one season. But that doesn't mean the Sox might not lose a member of their staff to the Pacific Northwest. Bench coach Brad Mills interviewed with the Mariners today, and third base coach DeMarlo Hale is scheduled for his interview on Thursday. The Sox appeared to be bringing back most of their staff -- with the exception of first base coach Luis Alicea, who was let go by the organization -- but could need to fill a hole in the coming weeks. “I have withdrawn my name for consideration by the Seattle Mariners as they search for a new manager," Farrell said in the statement. I wish them well as they move forward. My decision is based on family reasons and being committed to the Red Sox Organization. The working relationship shared with Theo and Tito and the resources provided by John Henry, Tom Werner, and Larry Lucchino create a situation that is both challenging and rewarding.”
  2. Welcome from another newbie. I was born and live about 100 miles from Fenway and am jealous that you get to watch the Sox on TV. I can only listen to the Sox on the radio where I live because we're considered "Yankees Market" and the Sox are blocked. So I listen to the games just like my parents did, on a staticky radio.
  3. I lived mostly in Stavanger, Norway and worked in the oil industry, lastly consulting @ Shell. The big sports were soccer, skiing, and skating.
  4. Hi Marc, I'm new here too but welcome! I'm a RS fan by birth, lived a lot of my adult life in Europe (Scandinavia) and never saw baseball being played there. Great to know there are baseballers in Holland. Interesting story about how you got hooked. Shame you have to wait till 2010 to visit Fenway. Boston = Baseball. I promise you one thing. Whether the Sox win or lose, you will love the magic of Fenway. Best wishes, caiside
  5. Welcome. I'm new here too.
  6. Hi Papa Tek, You must be so proud of your son. He's so restrained this off-season, palling around w/Scott and intimating that a mere $52M over 4 years would be adequate. What a guy! And you must be even prouder of how he conducts himself privately, carousing w/Heidi and all, through the divorce proceedings. What a guy! Regards, Papa Boras
  7. Just joined... I look forward to participating in the discussions here and hope the chat here is interesting. Just read the news at the Globe and it sounds like Boras is making a real arse out of himself over-selling Tek. And this is probably just the beginning of Boras' idiocy. Jason Bay seems like he has a level-headed, realistic agent. Can't understand why anyone would sign up w/Boras. $$$ cannot buy everything, especially not titles, as evidenced this year. Shame that Tek chooses to associate w/the guy at his peril. I hope Theo gets the catching sorted out early.
