  1. Two words: Bobby Jenks. Get it done!
  2. Atchison. He's our savior! @ Ital: Define "like flies": Out of around 16-17 decent options on the reliever market, six(Takahashi, Downs, Guerrier, Crane, Putz, Benoit) have signed. More than enough options, more than enough time. When and if they really start dropping like flies, then we can all engage in a collective scream of panic.
  3. How is the truth trolling? We're all wrong on our predictions/assumptions a significant percentage of the time we make them. You and a700 included.
  4. Wrong for once? I think you mean "wrong as usual" good sir.
  5. Lebron and the Heat beat the Cavs again. Just like it should be.
  6. Soriano is not an option for this team and he never was. Get real. He wants to close and it would become a bidding war with the Angels. What is a "Good reliever". Give me an example of a "good reliever" who has signed a contract of more than two years (i'm talking MRP, upper-echelon closers) and have not become a sunk cost halfway through it. I'll wait here.
  7. Overpaying on possible sunk costs is no way to operate a baseball team. Have the Yankees taught you nothing? Anyways, again, it's December 15th, if and when most of those relievers are gone, then it's time to panic. For the time being, we don't know what their plans are, or who they're really targeting. At this point about a month ago, no one expected Gonzo and Crawford to be part of the team, and look how that turned out.
  8. Because this team has budgetary constraints. And ineffective relievers become sunk cost. They don't want to hit the luxury tax and be hamstringed in future transactions. I bitched about the Crawford contract when they signed him, and i'll bitch even more now that it seems apparent that it's impacting the acquisitions of relievers negatively. I'd rather they overpay on a one/two year deal than giving a reliever three years of guaranteed money . Yuck.
  9. Money and/or years. Jose Contreras: 2 years, 5.50 mill. Really? Jesse Crain got 3 years. Come on now. Matt Guerrier got 3 years, 12 million. That's almost what Downs got, and Downs is a much, much superior reliever. Hisanori Takahashi got 2 years, 8 million. Every one of those contracts is out of line either in years, money or both.
  10. Because if you give contracts with absurd amounts of money and years to relievers who aren't that good (with the exception of Downs) then the same people who are bitching about the team not signing these relievers would be bitching about the "waste of money" those contracts are. I'll say it again. 3-year contracts for middle-tier relievers are a recipe for disaster, and i would not have been happy if they gave either Guerrier or Crane a three-year deal, but that's just me.
  11. It is what it is. No matter what they do to improve the team, there will always be reasons for people to whine and bitch and moan. History shows that shelling big deals to relievers (BJ Ryan, Justin Speier, Kyle Farnsworth) is a recipe for disaster. There are still enough decent relievers available for them to pick and choose the ones that best suit their needs in terms of ability and money.
  12. It's December 15th, and look at the list of available relievers that suit the Sox needs: And i may be leaving some out. Now, if/when half those relievers are off the board, it's time panic. And even still, there are still trade options. Jesus.
  13. Holy s*** Ital, calm the f*** down. And i don't think Soriano is realistic for this team. I think Fuentes/Wheeler is a possibility, but let's wait and see.
  14. Remaining relievers of interest: Brian Fuentes Kevin Gregg Jon Rauch Rafael Soriano Chad Qualls Grant Balfour Manny Delcarmen Pedro Feliciano Hideki Okajima Dan Wheeler Thoughts?
  15. Crain off the board. 3 years from the White Sox. Starting to get nervous......
  16. Roberto Alomar.
  17. While i agree with the general premise of the post (Crawford is getting way overpaid) i don't approve of your tone (if there is such a thing on the internet), what's up with all these "alright saber metrics geek" ********. If you want a well-thought out response about your topic, why make it sound like you're picking a bone with the people you want to respond to your post? First post here, and you already came off as a douche, the point being valid notwithstanding.
  18. Actually, you would be correct. It was reported that they withdrew their offer, but nothing about a definitive loss of interest.
  19. Jacko didn't once acknowledge the Sox being a better team than the Yanks.....on paper. Pathetic. Oh, and change the "top two" to "top three" since the top two spots are occupied by Boston and Philadelphia (no particular order). I don't care if you're not posting on a message board at 2 AM, but i expected exactly the spin-job response you gave regardless of the hour, day or location. Clockwork.
  20. If you use Victorino's career .770 OPS (he played injured for large portions of '10), the difference between him and Stubbs (who can't get on base to save his life) becomes much more apparent. Stubbs is not better than Victorino. That is a stretch. Also, i think the Phillies' weakness against LHP is a bit overblown, since the only guy in the Phillies lineup that is absolutely weak against left-handers is Howard. I never said they weren't similar, i just think that, completely healthy, the Phillies have a better lineup than the Reds, and why wouldn't the Phillies get another OF? It doesn't have to be a guy who makes a ton of money, they simply need a guy that can hit LHP to platoon with Brown who, by the way, might be better than Stubbs if given the chance next year.
