  1. Bardo not having one of his better games.
  2. What a treat for Brown. Welcome to the big leagues, big fella!
  3. Bay sure worked for that one.
  4. Penny's numbers are over 23 innings and the results are skewed by a single bad start against the Cubs. Wakefield's numbers are over 72 innings and he hasn't had a good playoffs start in the last 6 years. I'd say there's a slight difference there, in favor of Penny.
  5. On 4 days rest, yeah. the ALDS is a little different because it's a 5 game series.
  6. Well yeah, but even so you need 4 guys. Even if you get a Schilling 2007 type performance out of Smoltz (which I think is the most you can reasonably expect) you still need a guy to start game 4. The team has had opportunities to put the Game 1 starter into Game 4 twice in the last 2 years and did not do it either time. They apparently believe in a 4 man playoff rotation. So in order for Penny not to be in the playoff rotation you need 4 guys clearly better than he is. i dont see it
  7. Love to hear who you'd put in instead. We can't count on Daisuke to be healthy and effective. It might happen, but it might not especially if Daisuke's problems are related to the labrum or rotator cuff or some injury that basically spells "you will miss the rest of the season and then some." A distinct possibility at this point if rest hasn't helped Since we don't even know if Buchholz, Bowden, etc. are going to be playoff-eligible, that pretty much leaves Beckett, Lester, Penny and Wakefield. And Wakefield does not, not, not get more than 1 start in a 7 game series. His numbers in the playoffs are beyond disgusting. Until we know a little more about Smoltz, we need Penny. Even if we get some semblance of the old Smoltzy, we need a Game 4 starter, which ought to be Penny rather than Wake. and I'm not too worried about that.
  8. It might even be a decent move if you have a few relief prospects who could take over as closer. I've learned over the last few seasons not to celebrate Mariano's death prematurely. Rivera should be good for at least 1 year after this, and he's a bit of a freak of nature so who knows how long he can last..
  9. Ahh, I see. But then, so does the fact that he rarely throws a fastball under 94. It's two sides of the same excellent sign. And the fact that he's maintained this range of velocity over his last 4 starts with not a lot of deviation is an even better sign. Playoffs start right now, my rotation for a 7 game series is Beckett-Lester-Penny-Wakefield-Beckett-Lester-Penny with a hope that one of Smoltz, Buchholz and Bowden comes on healthy enough to kick Wakefield to the playoff bullpen.
  10. I'm more excited about a consistent 95 than I am about touching 97, personally. Consistency matters, especially with a guy recovering from injury troubles.
  11. That's exciting. A good look at the radar gun bears it out, too. Penny's pounding it in there at 95 miles an hour on a very regular basis.
  12. In my mind, Drew earned his entire contract with the 14 Million Dollar Grand Slam. The game was a blowout, but if Drew fails in that spot I'm not sure it is one, and Carmona was great that year. The grannie made forcing a Game 7 a snap and ultimately was a big factor in getting us to the Series. If he keeps killing the ball in the postseason like he did in 2007 and 2008 I see no reason why Drew's tenure in Boston won't be considered at least a mixed success.
  13. Meaningless.
  14. You suck, Castigs. Sorry, I had to.
  15. Really? D'oh...
  16. If you're going to move Drew out of the 3 hole, it's for papi and only Papi.
  17. I'd rather have Drew's power at third until we can trust Ortiz there.
  18. yawn. Pedroia's always good for one slump in a season and he always comes back like a house afire. For the record, jacoby's got his OBP back to .350 or so, might be time to shift him back to the 1 hole and move Peddy down.
  19. I'm not so sure he actually changed it. The initial statement got blown way the heck out of context. All he originally said is that he would listen to offers from any team, which he'd be crazy not to do. And he recognized that players don't tend to stay with one team for their entire careers anymore. Sounds like the same thing here, only with a bit more "company line" mixed in.
  20. Sustaining a BABIP that high is a prerequiste to hitting .400.
  21. Way to go Jeter!
  22. Marlins gonna blow a 3 run lead with 2 out.
  23. Doesn't look like it's gonna matter.
  24. No one seems to know that.
