  1. Course not. I agree with this. I'm not really trying to call for special treatment for Phillips. just asking why the heck none of us are doing or saying anything about the behavior of this woman? Pointing out that it takes two to screw isn't "asking for special treatment." It's the reverse, if anything. And don't give me that she was in a disempowered position in the workplace. She had power enough to bring Phillips down with a lawsuit rather than do the horizontal mambo if she chose, and she sure exercised her power after they broke it off. To date she's exercised her power to finish off his marriage, job and reputation and put him in treatment for sex addiiction. Now she had this power because he put it in her hands with his choices, but let's not be too loud or too quick to proclaim this woman an innocent victim either. I guess the reason we're not lumping the woman in is because either she's a clear crazy case or she just isn't as well known?
  2. Someone better. A 21 year old chapman is a dang good prospect. A 26 year old Chapman is a lefthanded Orlando Hernandez -- at best.
  3. I'd like to get something a bit more definite than Wikipedia. We have professional promoters out there right now trying to sell teams on spending millions on the guy and I'm sure at least one of them has editing privileges.
  4. One difference of course -- we know exactly how old Igawa is.
  5. He's the next Kei Igawa
  6. My opinion is that international pitchers with better records than Chapman, who are much more known quantities than Chapman, have not been worth the money that Chapman is asking for. Certainly Chapman has to start his first season with any club in AA, especially if his command and mechanics are in any way questionable (IIRC they are). And can we get a definite age on this guy PLEASE?

  8. *blink* Maine has won something?
  9. Yeah, let's not be too quick to absolve the woman though. Sounds like a Grade A nut. Phillips should have known better sure but I'd like to know what she thought she was doing too.
  10. Does it make any sense to make a play for Kenshin Kawakami? He expressed interest in Boston when he first appeared last year on the free agent market, and he pitched well last year for Atlanta. I know, I know, National League pitcher, but he has a ways he can slide and still be effective for us.
  11. You and I agree on that. Gomez is exactly the kind of player you shouldn't go after IMHO. Power without OBP at least does some good. speed without OBP is totally useless.
  12. Well, I'd caution against judging a deal like that too much by retrospect. One of the things you learn as time goes on is that just because an idea didn't work out doesn't mean it was the wrong idea. The real crime IMHO was including Bartlett in the Garza trade. I can't think of an excuse to throw that guy away. Also, not holding out for Fernando Martinez from the Mets
  13. The last 3 times the Mods have had to intervene to break up a fight, the common denominator was you. I don't think I'm exaggerating, and I'm sure as heck not making anything up. EDIT: It's about to be the last four, too, unless I shut this down, so I will.
  14. Well, there's that. He seems to get his clock cleaned on a fairly regular basis. Santana and Garza are not deals to hang your hat on.
  15. Well of course. When you break the rules it doesn't pay to drag it out. I feel it did need saying though. Dipre's getting himself a bit of a reputation as the board's champion flamethrower, sooner or later someone was going to call him on it. And frankly, I've taken worse than a bit of "drive by smug" in my time on this forum. I figure the number of times Dipre's called me a retard, an idiot, etc. give me the right to make a at least couple points about it, and about him.
  16. It makes sense. the Twins are a pretty young team and have other worthy relief stock. I think their GM knows how lucky they got this year to break into the playoffs and that that lightning is more likely to strike twice with a couple of decent prospects bolstering their lineup and rotation than it will with Nathan at the back end of the pen. Should a team worry about "the Yankee thing" if they wanted to trade for him? I don't think it's so much a black mark on Nathan as a recognition that the Yankee lineup is very, very good.
  17. You go ahead and do that. It beats your three-parts-insult, one-part-argument standard fare. When I'm not trying to start crap, I for one can keep the crap out of my posts. I'm done anyway. Go do your thing.
  18. Dipre involved in another crapfest with yet another Talksox poster? Naw. Never happen. McGwire's career slashstats are .263/.394/.588. A .263 average isn't great, but it's not bad enough that McGuire is a "one-dimensional" hitter. And of course, his other offensive skills are off the chart Looking at the number of times in his career that Mcgwire was hurt and didn't play a complete season or played poorly, you have to wonder what he could have done if he hadn't taken that time off
  19. If we get Zaun, we have to expose George Kottaras to waivers. As hard as it is to find a decent catcher I doubt Kottaras clears waivers -- too many teams have an absolute gap at catcher for me to believe teams will pass up on a chance to get him for free, especially with the power he hit for a couple years ago in AAA. Kottaras isn't a great backup catcher, but he's serviceable and young enough to improve. I don't think the difference beween him and Zaun is all that great and he's probably a better bet than Tek going forward. Even leaving Kottaras aside, I'd like to give Dusty Brown a shot before spending money on Zaun. There's other places the Sox need to put their dollars this offseason than a going-on-39 year old backup catcher with no arm. We already have one of those, only younger. And believe me, if that .800 OPS of Zaun's last year isn't small sample size, nothing is.
  20. I think considering his position and the value of his defense at the position, Mauer can give Pujols a run for his money. Pujols is a strong defensive 1B with incredible power, but we're talking franchise caliber gold glove catcher with historic offensive numbers for his position. Either one alone would make a good catcher. Put both together and Mauer is a candidate for one of the best catchers in history. Pujols is the best 1B of his era, but he's short of historic bests at a position dominated by power hitters.
  21. He's 26. If he lasts 8 years behind the dish catching 120-130 games or more a year he'll catch Bench handily. Catching until he's 32 or 33 is something you should be able to expect from a guy like Mauer.
  22. He's still smoking the 90's apparently.
