  1. Although really, Rondo's a lot more useful to the Celtics than a Ben Watson type. He's one of the starting 5 after all, and deserves to be there. I'd say he's a better analogue to Wes Welker or Jonathan Papelbon really, especially since he's won something..
  2. He's like a good tight end or a quality relief pitcher. He's not the guy who can be a franchise centerpiece, but having him around will make the guy who IS the centerpiece look a lot better.
  3. Pretty good game between Marshall and UCF last night. Marshall kept letting UCF back up last night and the UCF coach went for it on 7 different 4th downs and converted all bit one of them.
  4. I know, thus "alleged" power hitter. He's sure not a contact or speed hitter. I suppose that's the biggest part of Melky's problem. He really isn't one thing or the other. Make someone a decent career 4th OF when the New York overhype finishes wearing off though.
  5. Let's bear in mind that Ellsbury is a speed hitter while Cabrera is an alleged power hitter. Ellsbury's slugging is far less important to his overall game than Cabrera's -- and he still beats Cabrera in that category.
  6. 70 SB. That and the difference between a .336 OBP and a .355 OBP is a LOT bigger than it sounds. It's literally the difference between "Below Average" and "Above Average."
  7. Turnovers, turnovers turnovers...
  8. Or they're just keeping their options open. At least it suggests that they're open to the possibility.
  9. I think they'd be inclined to like Kalish better. He's a good OBP hitter, and his speed might be useful in such a cavernous park.
  10. Was watching that game. I think you have to give a lot of credit to the Heels defense. They were explosive all night, and overmatched the offensive line at will all night. That goal-line stand was impressive. I think Va Tech actually lost yardage. And I don't think anyone wanted to be that running back (Williams?) at the end of the game. I've never seen a a guy that broken up over a single play before. He was literally sitting there with his head in his knees and a towel over his head, crying for the entire drive leading up to the game-winning FG. that Little guy who the Heels had reminded me a lot of Kevin Faulk too. Not easy to stop a guy who can attack you that many different ways.
  11. if he's 21? I'd feel pretty great about it. If it takes him a couple years to get up to speed you have it that way. The guy should certaily start in AA at the highest BTW. No guaranteed big league start unless he EARNS it. Agreed?
  12. Increasingly? you can get a number HIGHER than infinity???
  13. Jason bay is one of the most consistent year in year out hitters in the league. If he needs to DH in a couple years, fine -- Ortiz will have moved on by then anyway.
  14. You're forgetting Delgado. He was a huge part of their offense over the last couple years and they were counting on him pretty heavily this year. And I did say "over 30." that includes Beltran. Though, again, the injuries to Wright and Reyes are still dang unlucky. Point of it is though that that Mets roster they opened the season with was pretty old. most of the injuries probably could have been anticipated.
  15. Well, to be circumspect about this.... part of the reason they have so many injuries this year has to do with how many over-30 players they have on their roster. Doesn't explain Wright or Reyes though.
  16. Just don't guarantee him he'll start in the big leagues. that would be one heck of a mistake.
  17. Considering the direction this game WAS heading in, not a bad job of bouncing back.
  18. Really guys, the answer is probably either DeMarlo Hale or John Farrell, with someone stepping in to take their current jobs.
  19. It does make sense to have someone as a bench coach who can step right in and do an adequate job though, for us more than other teams I'd say. Francona's pretty fragile for a man of his age, it wouldn't take many more health complications than he already has to render him unable to serve for a period of time..
  20. Huh. Guess it's my religion speaking then, becuase the only difference in my mind between married and unmarried in matters like this is the fact that a married adulterer is hurting more than himself.
  21. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AuZVqPmc2mATQOIcDg9kiOY5nYcB?slug=ap-astros-mills&prov=ap&type=lgns So apparently we now have a hole at bench coach. Any idea how we fill that hole? Maybe if Varitek picks up his player option we can just make him the best paid bench coach in baseball. Or maybe we slide Farrell forward and bring in a different pitching coach? I wonder if Schilling is tired of video games and blogging yet.
  22. WHICH IS EXACTLY WHY I'm asking this question. We are way too quick to blame the man when something like this comes up. You're already using the language of victims when referring to this woman. FOR ALL WE KNOW SHE IS A SLUTASAURUS REX!! Please keep that thought firmly in mind. (or, you know. don't... eww...) Anyway, let's try for a little actual gender equality here. They were both idiots and neither of them had any business doing what they were doing before and after the relationship, and the evidence suggests to me that either both of them are victims or neither of them are. Take your pick.
  23. More of the same. 93-97 wins, and a ticket to the postseason. Meanwhile the Yankees play a few wins over pythag and their fans strut around like they own the world because their team looks like it played a whole lot better than it actually did.
