  1. Not at all interested in the Cliff Lee sweepstakes. I don't trust the guy in the AL East. He's a contact pitcher with flyball tendencies playuing in a park that can be conservatively described as ideal for that skillset. The AL East ballparks tend to favor hitters and Fenway in particular frowns on flyball lefties. I want to clarify that I don't think he's going to suck if he comes here. He's a very, very good pitcher, but he's unlikely to be worth the price, and his ERA will rise in the AL East, and our rotation isn't the problem anyway . I'd be more interested in finding a slugging LF or a long term (more than this year) answer at corner infield. since the better Beltre does the less likely it is he sticks around.
  2. nice avatar. Sorry for the question but we've been fielding some one-post wonders recently.
  3. Even with Daisuke's struggles, I don't do that. Rhodes is almost exactly the kind of reliever you go out of your way not to acquire. He does his triving at an advanced age, in a limited role, in another league, and yet because of his numbers, the price would be high. The risk factor there is as high as it could possibly be.
  4. I've been keeping my head down for the most part on Beltre. I have been amazed by his turnaround. I had no idea he had that in him.
  5. It's not a handful of games. It's literally half a game.
  6. I think he does well enough for himself as a journeyman. I wanted him back last offseason but I can settle for Bill Hall. I can't believe that he couldn't break the majors this year after proving he could be a half decent starting SS. That's just the kind of stodgy conservatism that kills dreams.
  7. I said his contact skills were elite, not that Nava was elite. Obviously the jury's out on the total package, but that package is being carried on the basis of Nava's contact skills. Jeeze, get a grip people. Lots of AAAA guys have one or two elite tools. Also considering Nava's body of work in the minors, I think the burden of proof is on those who doubt the kid's contact skills, at least until more numbers come in.
  8. Jacko's talking the guy down -- there's a compliment if ever I heard one. He's not elite I agree -- but he does have one elite tool and it's one of the most important ones of all. It's like going to the goal in hockey. Good things happen when you make good contact, even if you do nothing else well.
  9. Good things always tend to happen when you get a switch-hitting kid with elite contact skills and a couple places you can play him.
  10. Pre-game line, .360/.407/.680. Could wish for more walks but why walk when you can hit everything? When he comes off his hot streak and settles back down into the .280 range, I think he'll get his walks in at that point. Went 1 for 2 with a HBP tonight as well. It's way premature, but right now this guy is sticking. I can't see even Theo, who likes to stick to Plan A whenever possible, sending this kid down at this point.
  11. They should have more games like that.
  12. Not all of them are going to be willing to risk the bargain bin either. Everyone knows what Thomas is when healthy, someone should be willing to take a risk that TT can put up a couple more strong years.
  13. They did everything they could to give this game away but I guess LA waned it less.
  14. Work on your pitching. Bill.
  15. Course, if Semin goes back to Russia we all wind up looking stupid.
  16. The Caps *will* push for Bergeron instead of Thomas. That's my honest opinion. And if we drafted Tyler Seguin, I would do it. I might be in the minority though. I'd give up Bergeron, Stuart, and a high pick other than #2 for Semin and not feel too bad about it -- even with Semin's well known issues bringing him in makes us contenders.
  17. Heard a Thomas+ to Washington for Semin rumor over at HFBoards. Mostly on the Boston side though so take that with the required hill of salt. Basically, I think that someone combined "the Caps are shopping Semin" with "the Bruins are taking offers for Thomas" without thinking it all the way through.
  18. You really have to know what's coming to pull that off, but if you can, I guess more power to ya.
  19. Did Beltre do that go-down-on-one-knee thing before he came here? that's 3 or 4 times he's gone deep on that one and I've never seen it done intentionally before.
  20. The question is, when Daisuke comes back, do you keep Doubront in the majors as a reliever or do you send him down to keep him stretched out.
