  1. Well, I can hate the guy, but he did some great things for his team and it's always sad when a guy who's been an icon passes on. My condolences to Yankee fans, and I never thought I'd utter those words. Now who the heck do I loathe though? Someone tell me! Who's the face of the monolith in the New Toilet?

  3. Killing the ball in half a year in Salem. Strong numbers, especially for a catcher. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=C&sid=t414&t=p_pbp&pid=543432 Offensively, I have no doubt in my mind the kid's ready to be promoted. The only thing that could hold him back is the D.
  4. Ok yeah, 2 all star appearanced in the last 4 all-star caliber years (counting this one). he'd have gone for the last 5 years if he's broken in at third rather than first. Or if he was a Yankee.
  5. Beautiful.
  6. Blame the Bush Administration.
  7. Fielder would be an awesome acquisition. I'd be very enthusiastic about it if I thought it had a legitimate chance of happening.
  8. Youk's got to be one of the most snubbed players of his skill level in MLB history. He's been one of the best offensive first basemen in the league for the past 2-3 seasons and he's gone to the all star game exactly once, last year when Ortiz finally disappeared.
  9. Believe Fielder's still under Milwaukee's control for a couple more years. I'm not sure Fielder's on the move this deadline or even this offseason -- Milwaukee's not so bad they should be throwing away their franchise player when they do have one last longshot to compete with him.
  10. I think Jacko's right. The ASG is virtually meaningless, and Youk's a bit banged up.
  11. Don't really think of a .270-.280 hitter as "five tool" either. That's a pretty exacting standard since you have to be really good at all tools. Like I said I'm in favor of bringing the guy in, but I don't think we should overstate the case either.
  12. A career .260 hitter is not "five tool." I want the guy as a FA, and I'd be willing to trade a reasonable price for the guy, but I'm not breaking the bank for him. He's exactly the kind of guy that gets overpaid and regretted.
  13. I'd probably enjoy Fenway more if it was a place I could walk out of without limping. It's just not built for 6'6" people.
  14. Whatever his nickname, he wears his heart on his sleeve and you always know he's out there doing his best for us. Most underrated hitter in the league, bar none. This guy's elite, and he never gets credit for being elite.
  15. Well, find a one-year filler and look for Adgon in FA after the 2011 season. The Yankees won't sign him since they have Teixeira and don't like tying up their DH spot.
  16. That depends on how much you're still beating the Adrian Gonzalez drum, I suppose. Realistically, we could just decide to sign a guy to play 3B next offseason, or just bring Beltre back. Youks is a little better on both sides of the ball than Gonzo anyway.
  17. I don't think convincing Werth to sign longterm on a perennial contender is going to be that big a deal, and Doubront's a guy we can realistically spare. I know he's talented but our rotation is locked up for the next 3 years so realistically the guy's trade bait.
  18. I'm completely on board with a Werth trade anyway. It's a move that makes sense, and it's about time to look for a guy who can replace Drew in RF anyway. If we got him I'd look at the possibility of playing him in RF, Drew in LF. Maybe the smaller field would reduce wear and tear.
  19. It makes sense, I know from a standpoint of a team that thinks it's a contender, trusting a guy like Nava to be the starting LF down the stretch is a real gamble, and I don't think we lose anything we can't afford to lose in that proposed deal, but WTH do you do with Cameron in that scenario? He'd be a heck of an expensive 4th OF for a year and a half.
  20. Me, I'm OK, because I never take the playoffs for granted. If we have to shut it down and sell off in order to reposition for the next run, fine.
  21. Uggh, I hate trying to trade with the Marlins, they never take any salary back and demand too much in prospects. Don't be too shocked if we just don't do much at the deadline guys, the signs aren't great this year, our prospect depth isn't what it has been and our holes are generally more along the lines of "once we get healthy" than "if we only had a..." Until Nava falls off a cliff we've solved the one big hole we were looking at maybe addressing midseason, and Catcher is an issue that's really going to have to wait until the offseason unless we can wheedle Chris Snyder away from the Diamondbacks. So I just don't see the big team-saving blockbuster ATM. Sorry guys.
  22. Someone missed a Darwin Award but earned himself an Honorable Mention.
  23. Official statement via KRLD 30 foot fall Responsive, able to move all extremities 4 others hit, treated with first aid. Thank god.
  24. Just saw a partial replay. .... Wish I hadn't...
