  1. Then the punchline's on us, you don't give up a guy like Mendez for a guy you don't plan to start.
  2. I think the plan almost has to be to turn Salty loose as our catcher next year. For good or bad this guy is gonna be our catcher for the next couple years. Also... bye Tek. Loved ya while we had ya.
  3. Pretty meh. I hope his stuff is better than his numbers.
  4. So Salty's a Sox, eh? I can definitely live with that.
  5. Minor leaguers from what I'm hearing. Scuttlebut at Soxprospects says Roman Mendez, Chris McGuiness, someone else and a PTBNL.
  6. Well... That.... came out of nowhere...
  7. If there's a guy who will blow up in the AL East, it's Jeremy Affeldt. He was horrible last time he was in the AL.
  8. Acquiring Kyle Farnsworth is not a "big" trade.
  9. We'd better be getting real value back...
  10. The Giants? OK, that's random. Makes sense though. Waiting to see who we got back.
  11. Did we get anything back?
  12. Always have to give it a little time to make sure there wasn't a last minute deal. An hour is often sufficient.
  13. If anything is going to get done, it is done. Now all we have to do and wait to learn if anything happened.
  14. Actually that sounds about right. 100% sure well see Nava in September, and he'll get a chance to audition then. It's time to see what Kalish is though. I see some Damon-like qualities there that I'd like to see get a chance to pan out.
  15. Well, if nothing else he's already made the team better. Shame about Hermida. He could have been useful. I don't think this was his last "second chance" though.
  16. Kalish is one of our top prospects. Nava not getting the call over Kalish is understandable. As I understand it the only reason Nava was called up earlier was because they weren't sure Kalish was ready. Nava isn't AAAA, I think he's established that he has MLB upside in his short stint with the team, although what he does with it over a bigger sample size is still up in the air. I can see him making the bench next year, and then where he goes is based on what he does with his chances/
  17. A trade for what????
  18. Not before time, but thank goodness.
  19. Could J. D. Drew be on the move? If this was Hermida or Ellsbury I can't see why they wouldn't just call up Nava again.
  20. I'm still squarely in the "keep Ellsbury" camp. I think dealing him is an extreme overreaction.
  21. That's the right move. But in the specific case of Hermida and Lowell, Theo needs to clear them even if he can't find a buyer. In Lowell's case he can hold out for the waiver deadline, but Hermida needs gone yesterday. There is no way in the time remaining between now and August 31 that he gains appreciable positive trading value.
  22. No way. This season isn't worth leveraging the future for anymore. Our chances of making the playoffs have to be less than 30%. When you're a small market team, a 30% chance is worth leaping it because it might be the best chance you'll get in awhile, but in our case, it's the worst chance we've had at the deadline since the three-division era began. This means no rentals. It doesn't, however, mean don't make a deal. Just anyone we get needs to be here next year too to be worth mortgaging a major piece of our franchise's future for..
